Hyundai Ioniq, pure dynamism
The Ioniq stands out for its sporty character. It features a dual-clutch gearbox. Its starting price is €23,900 and its direct rival is the Toyota Prius, the leader of the segment.
The top priority for the engineering team at Hyundai Motor when developing the Ioniq was to achieve a dynamic driving experience. This hybrid model features a dual-clutch gearbox and will have a base price of €23,900. The Ioniq has a design fairly similar to that of its direct rival, the Toyota Prius.

This Korean hybrid uses a 1.6 petrol engine which, combined with an electric motor, delivers a combined output of 141 CV and 270 Nm of torque.
As for the transmission, it includes a six-speed DCT dual-clutch gearbox. This gearbox provides a very direct response and offers high transmission efficiency thanks to the use of low-friction bearings and low-viscosity oil.
“This dual-clutch gearbox is the ideal partner for a hybrid powertrain,” says one of the development managers.
The Hyundai Ioniq uses a lithium-polymer battery pack instead of the conventional nickel-metal hydride batteries. Lithium-ion batteries offer a higher maximum output, are less susceptible to the “memory effect,” and are more compact and lighter. The battery pack is located beneath the rear seats in order to lower the centre of gravity and balance the weight distribution between the axles.
The bonnet and tailgate of this hybrid model are made of aluminium, reducing the weight of these components by 14 kg compared with other models in the range. The boot tray is also 25% lighter. The bodyshell, for its part, is made up of 53% advanced high-strength steel, which provides greater structural rigidity.

The chassis tuning of the Hyundai Ioniq was carried out by Hyundai Motorsport Germany. The front and rear suspensions are 10 kg lighter thanks to the use of aluminium, contributing to more precise handling and less unsprung inertia.
In order to improve ride quality and cabin noise in the Ioniq, the Korean brand has worked on improving the insulation of the dashboard, in addition to fitting a thicker rear window and a noise-reducing film on the windscreen.
