Hyundai takes the market by storm with the spectacular IONIQ V

Hyundai shakes up the Chinese market with the launch of the IONIQ V. A model that combines elegance, space, premium finishes and cutting-edge technology.

Hyundai has seized the annual date with one of the most important motor shows in China, the Beijing Motor Show, to unveil its first model in the IONIQ series aimed exclusively at that market. The spectacular IONIQ V is an electric vehicle derived directly from the IONIQ Venus prototype, shown just a few days ago.

Earlier this month, the South Korean brand announced its intention to launch a new range of electric vehicles in China under the well-known IONIQ sub-brand. That announcement came with the presentation of two prototypes: the Earth Concept electric SUV and an electric saloon called Venus Concept.

Just a few days after that announcement, the last of those prototypes we mentioned has already become a series production model. The new IONIQ V -written with Roman numerals, not to be confused with the IONIQ 5 sold in Europe- can be classified as a crossover with a fastback silhouette and sharp lines, combining elements of a saloon with others of an SUV.

The South Korean manufacturer describes the new IONIQ V as a premium electric vehicle that redefines the driving experience. A model aimed at everyone who enjoys covering long distances with the highest level of comfort. Something that the 600 km of CLTC range it offers will undoubtedly help with.

The embodiment of what premium space should mean

With a length of 4.90 metres, a width of 1.89 metres and a wheelbase of 2.90 metres, the new IONIQ V also stands out for the interior space it offers. Its generous cabin, with 1.08 metres of legroom in the front row and 1.02 metres in the second row, will undoubtedly appeal to many Chinese customers, who are known to place special importance on features like this.

The driver’s seat, meanwhile, will leave no one indifferent with its large, ultra-thin 27-inch 4K panoramic display, which integrates both the instrument cluster and the infotainment system. It is further complemented by a Horizon Head-up Display (H-HUD) that projects information directly into the driver’s line of sight.

Among its most advanced technologies are driver-assistance systems developed by the Chinese company Momenta, capable of operating in a wide variety of scenarios. Additionally, it also features an artificial intelligence-based assistant that uses an advanced LLM language model, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 processor. In this way, voice control can be fast and intuitive when controlling multiple vehicle functions.

The IONIQ V will be produced in China by the Beijing Hyundai joint venture, in collaboration with BAIC. At the end of 2024, both companies announced an investment of 8,000 million yuan -which at the current exchange rate comes to roughly one billion euros- with the aim of strengthening their strategy in the country. As part of that plan, Beijing Hyundai plans to launch 20 new models in China over the next five years, with this IONIQ V being only the first.
