Hyundai will launch in 2026 the world's first supercar powered by a hydrogen fuel cell

The N74 from Hyundai will mark several milestones in the company’s history when the final production version finally reaches the market in 2026

The South Korean manufacturer is set to revolutionise the automotive industry with the launch of the world’s first mass-production supercar powered by hydrogen, the N Vision 74. This model will become Hyundai’s future flagship and will compete with high-end vehicles such as the next generation of the Tesla Roadster or the Lotus Type 135.

According to a recent report published by South Korean media, Hyundai’s hydrogen fuel cell supercar will reach the market in 2026 and will be an evolved version of the N Vision 74 prototype that was unveiled in July 2022. Internally, Hyundai currently refers to this project by the codename “N74“. What little is known today is that the production model will feature a single powertrain on the rear axle capable of delivering up to 570 kW of power, thus being able to reach 100 km/h from a standstill in just three seconds.

Although the N74’s top speed has not yet been revealed, it is expected to exceed the 250 km/h of the original prototype thanks to its improved power. Furthermore, Hyundai is confident that the production model will have at least the same range as the prototype, therefore exceeding 600 km on a full refuelling of the vehicle’s hydrogen tanks.

With the N74, Hyundai intends to showcase the full potential of hydrogen-based technologies in the automotive sector, with the aim of popularising this type of vehicle. In addition, the South Korean manufacturer is developing in parallel the next generation of the Nexo, a hydrogen fuel cell electric SUV that it plans to launch in 2025. Hyundai believes the N74 could help attract more customers to this new SUV.

Getting hold of an N74 will not be easy

It is worth noting that production of the N74 will be extremely limited, with only 100 units built annually during the first two years. This exclusivity will make this hydrogen-powered supercar a rare sight on the roads, giving it unprecedented exclusivity in Hyundai’s history. Everything points to the first test prototype being ready by next August, with production of the final model starting in June 2026.

Finally, it should be noted that, as expected, the N74 will not be cheap. According to South Korean media reports based on internal sources, its price is expected to be around 500 million South Korean won. That would amount to roughly 340,000 euros. The N74 will thus become the most expensive model in Hyundai’s history, far surpassing the IONIQ 5 N. With a price well above the quarter-million-euro mark, the N74 will have to compete head-to-head with other new-generation supercars with fully electric powertrains, such as the future Tesla Roadster or the Lotus Type 135.
