Jaguar Land Rover never stops innovating, not for a single second. Just a few hours ago we learned about its idea of an interactive windscreen, on which the vehicle would project all the relevant information for the driver.

Today it is time to talk about the new engine family that the car group is developing. Its name is Ingenium.

These engines, whose first application on our roads will arrive in the coming months, are being developed to become the kings of their respective segments. It is a completely new engine family which will stand out in areas such as efficiency and performance, and which will be fitted to numerous models of both Jaguar -the XE will use them- and Land Rover.

Ingenium engines will be both diesel and petrol, with a modular architecture, which will allow the manufacturer to modify them to a great extent while always keeping costs under control. In fact, the engines will be built from individual 500 cc blocks, so that it will be possible to build a 2-litre four-cylinder engine or a 3-litre six-cylinder one by adding or removing components on a common base. All of them will share technologies such as turbocharging or direct injection.

The first of this family will be a 2.0 four-cylinder diesel engine, whose internal designation will be AJ200D. Although the brand has not yet revealed any information about the powerplant, we do know it will be one of the most efficient in its segment, with a weight reduction of approximately 80 kilos compared with an equivalent current engine.

Jaguar Land Rover has developed a comprehensive testing programme for these engines, so that each engine model, before going into series production, will have covered the equivalent of 3.2 million kilometres, running for more than 72,000 hours at different efficiency levels.
