We continue with the American flagship, and with the analysis of one of the luxury 4x4s with the best TT capabilities of all those on the market: we are talking about the Jeep Grand Cherokee that we have tested with the 3.0 V6 CRD diesel engine producing 250 CV and the Overland trim.

If you want to know more about the engine, the on-road performance or the off-road capabilities of the Grand Cherokee, we analysed all of that in the first part of the test. Now, in the second part we turn to the exterior design, the interior space and finishes, and the boot. Let’s go!

Exterior design

When we see a Jeep Grand Cherokee, we immediately identify it as an American, robust car, with those marked lines, its dimensions, the imposing front end, the large wheel arches, the 20-inch alloy wheels, everything on a grand scale, everything to American taste.

The front end was slightly updated in the facelift it received a few months ago. It features a large front bumper and small headlights, which come as standard with LED technology for the daytime running lights and bi-xenon for the rest. The Jeep signature is also there, that is, the seven slots in the grille that define the front of any Jeep.

From the side, the most striking elements are the wheel arches, which are enormous, and its huge 20-inch wheels. The glazed area looks small in relation to the massive doors, and several side creases reinforce the robust image of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

At the rear, the car’s height off the ground is evident. It has LED lights, and the tailgate is electric on this version. For a sporty touch, there is the dual exhaust outlet.

Interior of the Jeep Grand Cherokee

Inside there are also some changes with the facelift. The steering wheel has a new design and features a 7-inch TFT instrument cluster that combines analogue dials with a digital display. Another prominent screen is the central one, at 8.4 inches, from which we can control all of the vehicle’s systems.

At the wheel, the driving position is high, with a great sense of space and excellent visibility, especially thanks to the large mirrors. The seats are leather, micro-perforated, heated and ventilated, a feature we rarely see as standard in a premium car. They have electric adjustment and are really comfortable: for a long journey, this is a car that looks after its occupants, and we can keep driving without tiring at any point. The padding of the seats is rather soft, but never to the point of being uncomfortable.

As for the dashboard, it uses two types of material. In the upper area the leather finish and quality are sublime, while in some lower areas there are hard plastics that are not as pleasant. That said, the quality of both the dashboard and the doors is in line with the segment.

The rear seats are generous, with plenty of legroom and headroom. Three passengers can travel very comfortably, although two of them will feel like a true head of state. In this trim the rear seats are heated. It is also worth noting the air vents and the two USB sockets that act as chargers for our electronic devices.

Boot and storage

In terms of storage spaces, the Grand Cherokee has plenty of places to leave our belongings: a large main glovebox, two cup holders in the centre console, a storage space in the centre console, large door pockets (except at the rear), and a medium-sized central compartment.

As for the boot, it is not as large as one might expect from a 4×4 of this size. It has a capacity of 457 litres. It is quite high because it is fitted with a traditional full-size spare wheel, and of course that takes up space. To load bulky items, we can lower the suspension from the boot to make loading easier.

In the third part we will analyse the safety equipment of the Jeep Grand Cherokee (very comprehensive), the rest of its equipment, the prices and our overall assessment of the car.
