Leapmotor will launch an AWD version of the C10 compact SUV in Europe before the end of the year

The Leapmotor C10 AWD will introduce a new 800V architecture into the range of versions of this compact SUV.

Leapmotor will expand its electric model offering in Europe this autumn with an all-wheel-drive version of its C10 compact SUV. Positioned at the top of the range of versions of this model, the C10 AWD will feature an 800V architecture and a combined output from its two electric motors of 430 kW. These specifications will allow it to reach 100 km/h from a standstill in just 4 seconds.

Although the top speed has not yet been confirmed by the manufacturer, this variant promises superior performance, positioning Leapmotor as a relevant competitor in a new market segment in which it is not yet present.

It is important to point out, however, that the major novelty of this version lies not only in its power or all-wheel drive, but in the adoption of an 800-volt electrical architecture. A notable advance over the previous C10 models on sale in Europe, all of which use a 400-volt architecture.

In China, Leapmotor had already presented an updated version of the C10 with this technology in May, and now this innovation is about to reach the European market as well. This system allows greater energy management efficiency and shorter charging times, a key aspect for electric vehicle drivers.

Higher-capacity battery but similar range

The all-wheel-drive version of the C10 will be available exclusively in the “Design” trim, which stands out for its high-end equipment. This model will also incorporate an 81.4 kWh LFP battery pack, larger than the 69.9 kWh of the European models available until now, with which it is possible to travel up to 425 kilometres on a single charge under the WLTP homologation cycle. Although Leapmotor has not specified the exact range of this new AWD version, it is estimated to be quite similar, since although the battery pack capacity is greater, so will be the energy consumption as a consequence of integrating a second electric motor.

When it comes to recharging, Leapmotor states that the C10 AWD’s battery pack will allow the state of charge to be increased from 30 to 80 percent in around 22 minutes, without the need for preconditioning. If this is the case, it will represent an improvement over the 30 minutes required by the C10 with 400-volt technology. Leapmotor has not, however, disclosed the maximum charging power supported by this new model.

With the C10 AWD, Leapmotor will seek to consolidate its presence in Europe. The introduction of a new 800-volt architecture and all-wheel drive will not only be a significant improvement for this compact electric SUV, but also reflects the brand’s commitment to innovation in the competitive European electric vehicle market.
