Lexus LC500h, possibly the most beautiful hybrid in the world

Over the last few years, Lexus has been undergoing a real transformation. Proof of this is the launch of the LC, a large coupé with striking design.
Following the presentation of the LC500, the Japanese now present, as could only be expected, the hybrid version, named LC500h.
Worldwide, Lexus has spent years building a strong reputation in the field of hybrid vehicles, thanks to hard work that has produced a wide range of eco-friendly models in which luxury and performance also play a dominant role, and which include compacts, saloons and SUVs.
In addition, a few months ago we learned of the arrival of the most “passionate” hybrid in the brand’s history to date, the RC300h coupé, a two-door based on the IS with a very pleasant and sporty design, to which is added the value of a hybrid powertrain that reduces consumption and improves the “green” side of the model. In fact, it is the first premium coupé in the world to offer a hybrid version.

However, the good news for Lexus does not end there. Following the presentation just one month ago of the Lexus LC500, now comes the hybrid variant, which is possibly the most beautiful hybrid in the world. The LC had already earned praise around the world thanks to its stunning design combined with an interior that truly looks like a prototype.
The spiritual successor to the LFA arrived with a 5.0 V8 powertrain (the same as in the RC F and GS F), which promised outstanding performance and a dynamism unexpected for a Lexus. Now, to satisfy the expectations of the most eco-friendly buyers, the LC500h arrives, which promises to become the most dynamic and fun hybrid in Lexus’s history.
In terms of both interior and exterior design, there are hardly any changes compared with the V8 version. The changes begin under the bonnet, where the naturally aspirated V8 is replaced by a 3.5 V6 engine producing 295 CV, to which is added the power of a 60 CV electric motor. The final result is 354 CV, which promises, among other figures, a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in under 5 seconds.
This Lexus is also the brand’s pioneer in several respects. To begin with, it is the first hybrid from the luxury brand to use lithium-ion batteries instead of the traditional nickel-metal hydride ones. This feature results in a lighter hybrid system, which in turn improves driving dynamics.

This Lexus is the first hybrid from the brand to use a gearbox with fixed gears. Four, to be precise
The other major point worth noting is the transmission. For the first time in a Lexus hybrid, the gearbox is not a CVT (e-CVT to be exact) but a gearbox with real, fixed gears. Four, to be precise. Yes, only four, like transmissions from 20 years ago, but it is progress. We will see how it behaves. In addition, this model features what the brand calls the “multi-stage hybrid system”, which allows it to deliver more or less thrust depending on the circumstances, thus improving its behaviour.
Of course, the Lexus LC500h keeps that completely “manga”-inspired style that results in a truly astonishing concept-car look. Technically, the LC500h, like its conventional-engined sibling, uses a lot of aluminium for numerous body and chassis components, improving both lightness and strength. Carbon fibre is also present in the roof.
No further technical, performance or consumption data is yet known, although the LC500h may return an average consumption of around 7 litres. Either way, this hypothetical rival to the BMW i8 will reveal more details at the Geneva Motor Show in 15 days.
