Lucid Motors begins production of the Gravity SUV at its Arizona plant

With this luxury electric SUV, Lucid Motors aims to set new standards in performance, versatility and sustainability, reflecting the brand’s ambition to lead the premium electric vehicle market.

Lucid Motors’ second electric model, following the launch of its luxury electric saloon Lucid Air more than three years ago, has begun rolling off the assembly line at the company’s plant in Casa Grande, Arizona. The company started production of pre-series units of its new Gravity SUV last July and, five months later, has been able to start building units for customers.

Lucid Motors has been accepting orders for the Gravity in the United States for several weeks now, a sign that the start of production was imminent. In this market, the electric SUV is available from $79,900, although anyone wanting a unit of this entry-level version will have to wait until late 2025.

The American manufacturer has started production of the Gravity with the Grand Touring version, priced from $94,900 in the United States. The first deliveries will therefore correspond to this version.

With dimensions of 5,034 mm long, 2,195 mm wide (with mirrors) and 1,656 mm high, the Lucid Gravity Grand Touring offers a cargo capacity of up to 3,171 litres with the rear seats folded down. Its range is also one of the longest currently available on the market, as it promises 708 km under the EPA homologation cycle. This luxury electric SUV also stands out for its charging capability, with a maximum power of 300 kW supported on DC and 22 kW on AC.

It’s not all good news for Lucid Motors

In other news, and separate from the start of Gravity production, the company is undergoing some changes in its executive leadership. According to the latest reports, Alexander Lutz has stepped down as Managing Director for Europe at Lucid Motors, less than a year after his appointment; he will be succeeded by Lawrence Hamilton, who previously headed the European operations of the South Korean firm Genesis.

Lutz’s departure appears to be entirely unexpected. The former Managing Director for Europe at Lucid Motors updated his LinkedIn profile just a few days ago to reflect his exit, now identifying himself as “Executive in the automotive sector” without mentioning Lucid Motors. Meanwhile, his successor, who has also updated his LinkedIn profile, has been linked to the automotive sector since the 1990s, passing through firms as renowned as Daewoo, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Kia or Hyundai.

This change at the head of the Lucid Motors Europe division adds to the departure of a considerable number of the company’s executives in recent months. Nine senior executives have left Lucid Motors in just over a year, including some involved in software development, supply chains, quality control, and communications and marketing, as well as several board members, such as the Chief Financial Officer and the General Counsel.
