New Audi Q7 2024: possibly the last update of the flagship SUV of Audi as we know it

Almost two decades after its arrival on the market, the Audi Q7, which for a long time has been the flagship among SUVs of the brand with the four rings -a position now held by the Audi Q8– is receiving what could well be its last update before the arrival of a completely new generation. And judging by the announced roadmap of Audi towards the full electrification of its range, the future model should already be fully electric. But that is another story.

Now, Audi presents the new Audi Q7 MY24, with a significant aesthetic update that suits it very well. Let us recall that this is the second restyling of the second generation of the Q7, launched in 2015 and updated in 2019.

What changes inside and out on the new Audi Q7

Without a doubt, the most striking element is the new Singleframe grille, with vertical inserts that feature a different design for the Advanced trim -drop-shaped- and for the S line and SQ7 -L-shaped. The headlights, now positioned higher, are also new, as are the bumpers, the rear light clusters… in short, what is usually changed in a redesign of this kind. It must be said, however, that the intended effect has been achieved, which is to “lighten” the image of a large car to offer a more minimalist look, without losing presence or elegance.

As new features, the Q7 receives the digital OLED rear lights already used by other models such as the Audi A8, the Q8 and the Q5, with a proximity indication function that alerts other users approaching within two metres when the car is stationary. Optionally, the Q7 can be fitted with Matrix LED headlights and HD Matrix LED headlights with laser light Audi. In the higher versions, different digital signatures for the daytime running lights are incorporated, which the user can choose from the MMI.

A restyling usually also offers new body colours, and in the case of the Q7 the range adds Sakhir Gold, Ascari Blue and Chili Red, as well as new wheel designs ranging from 19 to 22 inches. In the cabin, the Q7’s main lines remain almost unchanged, with only minor details such as new colours for the contrast stitching of the upholstery. To be honest, it hardly needed it, except to take the step towards the new interior design language and the concept of panoramic screen for its future models, which Audi showed in the Q6; but the Q7 is not due for that yet.

The surround-view display has been improved, and the range of third-party applications available for download has been expanded, including Spotify and Amazon Music. The standard equipment of the entry-level Advanced versions now includes electric seats, electrically adjustable exterior mirrors with memory, comfort armrests, Audi virtual cockpit plus, comfort key, a fuel tank enlarged to 85 litres and the Audi phone box.

The engines and running gear of the new Audi Q7

For now, versions with the already familiar 3-litre V6 in 231 hp variants for the Q7 45 TDI, and with 286 hp for the Q5 50 TDI are announced. The petrol alternative is the Q7 55 TFSI, also with a 3-litre V6, which delivers 340 hp. All are paired with an automatic Tiptronic gearbox and quattro four-wheel drive and, as in the outgoing model, feature 48-volt mild hybrid technology. At the top of the range, the Audi SQ7 continues to rely on the 4.0 TFSI twin-turbo V8, which retains its 597 hp and reaches a maximum torque of 770 Nm.

There is nothing new in the running gear either, where the Audi Q7 already had all kinds of sophisticated features, from adaptive air suspension to four-wheel steering -optional on the Q7 and standard on the SQ7- as well as the electromechanical active roll stabilisation system of the body. Even so, Audi has made improvements to the steering to make manoeuvring easier, aided by the remote parking plus system, which allows the manoeuvre to be controlled from outside the vehicle via a smartphone.

The prices of the Audi Q7 for the Spanish market start at 79,000 euros for the Q7 45 TDI quattro, and at 86,270 euros for the 50 TDI quattro, while the Q7 55 TFSI quattro is priced at 85,770 euros and the SQ7 TFSI at 124,770 euros.
