New Dacia Duster 2022: more technological, more efficient and more connected

Dacia presents an update for the Duster that includes slight aesthetic changes and some interesting technical novelties, such as the dual-clutch gearbox.

We will have to wait until September 2021, when its arrival at dealerships is scheduled. But Dacia already reveals the novelties the Duster brings before the generational change, which will take place no earlier than 2023.

For now, the Duster has already sold more than 1.9 million units since its launch in 2010. Dacia’s “affordable” SUV has been the sales leader in its category in Europe since 2019. And now it adds more arguments to continue this success story.

The design of the new Dacia Duster 2022

This is not a moment for an aesthetic revolution, and at Dacia they have settled for incorporating into the new Duster some of the style elements we have seen on the new Sandero and Sandero Stepway. This includes the “Y”-shaped daytime running lights and the motif used in the front grille. In addition, the new Duster will be the first Dacia model to incorporate LED turn signals. A slight aerodynamic improvement is also announced, which allows a small reduction in consumption to be announced for some versions. Specifically, these improvements are associated with the new rear spoiler design and the new 16- and 17-inch wheels, optimized in the wind tunnel.

Inside, the most important change in the new Duster is the new touchscreen for the multimedia system, which reaches a size of 8 inches. Two equipment options are available, the Media Display and the Media Nav. The first already features Bluetooth connectivity, two USB ports, compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and steering wheel controls, as well as the option to use the iOS or Google voice assistant via the mobile phone for voice control.

The Media Nav system adds navigation and wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The all-wheel-drive versions add the 4×4 Monitor, with information such as inclinometer, compass or altimeter.

Other changes affecting the interior are the new upholstery used for the seats, the redesign of the headrests and the new raised center console with a sliding armrest, which hides a 1.1-liter compartment.

Engines: more efficiency and dual-clutch gearbox

Dacia continues to offer the option of choosing between petrol, diesel or LPG bi-fuel versions. The 1.5 dCi with 115 CV can be combined with 4×2 or 4×4 traction, always with a six-speed manual gearbox. The petrol TCe in 90 and 130 CV versions is only offered with 4×2 traction and manual gearbox. And the top-of-the-range TCe with 150 CV and 4×2 traction now receives as a novelty the six-speed EDC dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

As for the Duster ECO-100 LPG, the usable volume of the gas tank increases by 16.2 liters, which allows for longer driving in “gas” mode, and takes the total range of this version up to 1,235 kilometers. A new control is also added to easily switch between petrol and LPG mode, and the TFT screen in the instrument cluster shows information about the petrol and LPG levels in the tanks. Here you can read the road test of the current Dacia Duster LPG.

Another change that helps improve efficiency is the tyres. The 4×2 versions are fitted with tyres with a reduced rolling resistance of 10%, while the 4×4 versions use All Season tyres marked 3PMSF, which guarantees mobility in winter without using chains.
