Opel Mokka GSE Rally 2025: the first 100% electric FIA eRally5 rally car

The new Opel Mokka GSE Rally combines 280 CV with provocative styling, purely racing-bred technology, and makes history as the first FIA eRally5 car

Rüsselsheim never stops. While the world is still getting used to the subtle yet devastating sounds of electric rally cars, Opel raises the stakes once again with the new Mokka GSE Rally, a prototype that stands out not only for its power and design but for being the first car in the world developed under the new FIA eRally5 regulations. In other words: this is the future, and it’s already burning rubber.

The German beast makes its official debut on 23 and 24 May at the ELE Rally of Eindhoven, and it’s already making more noise than many combustion engines. Literally.

280 CV, 345 Nm and zero compromises

Forget the typical urban SUV. The Mokka GSE Rally is a stage predator with provocative styling and jaw-dropping figures: 207 kW of power (280 CV) and a brutal torque of 345 Nm. Add a racing gearbox, a limited-slip differential and an ultralight chassis built to fly (and land) on every stage.

The suspension, signed by Bilstein, with reinforced MacPherson struts and a modified rigid rear axle, promises surgical precision through every corner. Electronic aids? Forget them: no ABS, no ESP, no traction control. Here, the driver is in charge.

The design also screams competition from every angle. Its eye-catching ‘OMG! GSE’ vinyl wrap, asymmetric yellow alloy wheels, the roof air intake or the matte black bonnet with rally-style typography… everything on the Mokka GSE Rally conveys aggression and excitement, I’m sure, even though I haven’t been able to test it yet.

Inside, safety is no less important. FIA roll cage, six-point harness, a special battery enclosure, and an extinguishing system adapted for electric cars. The high-voltage system disconnects automatically within milliseconds if a collision is detected.

The ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup, the cradle of change

Since 2021, Opel and ADAC have been writing history with the world’s only electric rally one-make cup. More than 60 drivers from 13 countries have already taken part, proving that electric rallying is not only viable but thrilling.

The new Mokka GSE Rally is born from this experience and is designed to mark the step towards a new global category: the FIA eRally5. It is expected to be present in multiple international championships from 2026 onwards. The Mokka GSE Rally is also a preview of what is coming for the sub-brand GSE (Grand Sport Electric). As Rebecca Reinermann, VP of marketing at Opel and Vauxhall, stated:

“This prototype reflects what GSE means: emotion, performance and a motorsport heritage reinterpreted in electric form.”

Where and when to see it?

If you are near Eindhoven on 23 and 24 May, don’t miss the chance to see this electric gem in action. The Mokka GSE Rally will be present in the service park of the ELE Rally, where the public can get up close to this machine that promises to electrify the championship.

With the Mokka GSE Rally, Opel not only previews the future of electric rallying. It builds it. This prototype proves that electric motorsport does not have to be any less wild, less exciting or less competitive. And, more importantly, it shows that sustainability and adrenaline can go hand in hand.
