Porsche 911 RSR: the new GT aiming for victory at Le Mans

The Porsche 911 RSR features the new naturally aspirated six-cylinder boxer engine, four litres with direct injection, positioned ahead of the rear axle. This ultralight powerplant delivers 510 CV, and the transmission system adds a camshaft with fixed drive.

“For the 911 RSR we wanted to focus on a particularly modern and lightweight naturally aspirated engine, as that gave our engineers immense possibilities to develop the vehicle,” explains Porsche Motorsport head Frank-Steffen Walliser.
The 911 RSR has a completely new layout. The suspension, the bodyshell structure, the aerodynamic concept, as well as the engine and transmission, were all designed from scratch.

“Since its first run at Weissach in March, this year we have covered 35,000 kilometres of testing on circuits in Europe and North America, more than in the development of any other Porsche competition GT,” says Marco Ujhasi, head of the official GT programmes.

Among the new features are a new concept for roll bars and a new competition seat. On the technology side, the new 911 RSR is equipped with a collision warning system, the well-known “Collision Avoid System” that many road cars offer today.
For the 2017 season, the factory team expects to take part in 19 races with the 911 RSR. Porsche will be present in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as well as in the American IMSA WeatherTech series.
