Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo breaks the absolute Nürburgring record by almost 1 minute
The Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo, with an impressive time of 5:19.55 minutes, sets the fastest lap in the history of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.
After 35 years, Porsche, thanks to its 919 Hybrid Evo prototype, they once again break the historic record they set in 1983 with the Porsche 956 on the legendary Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit, with a time of 5:19.55 minutes, which means an average speed of 233 km/h over the lap on what is considered the most dangerous circuit in the world. This time corresponds to the category of track cars; in the category of “road-legal” cars, the NIO EP9 still holds the number 1 spot with a time of 6:45.90 minutes.

The record was set by Le Mans winner Timo Bernhard (37, Germany), a time that had not been beaten since 1983, when Stefan Bellof drove the legendary Porsche 956.

The Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo is a prototype with which the brand won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2015, 2016 and 2017, as well as the FIA World Endurance Championship three times in a row. Undoubtedly another trophy for the display cabinets of the legendary German manufacturer.

In the words of Andreas Seidl, head of the LMP team: “As a racing team, we are always looking for new challenges to take the car to another level, with the combined help of the driver and the team. Conquering the ‘Green Hell’ was undoubtedly a suitable challenge for this. Since last winter we have been preparing for this task, always maintaining the great respect this circuit inspires. Today we have shown the potential of the 919 Evo. Congratulations to Timo on his spectacular driving; having been a historic winner at this circuit, Timo was the logical choice for this job.
Maintaining the balance between attack and safety has been essential on this circuit. Safety is our number one priority. In this regard, I would also like to thank the Nürburgring circuit team; breaking records would not be possible without the professional support of the circuit staff.”
