Renault reported losses in 2012 in its car division

The collapse of the European market is being felt, and although Renault has done everything possible to minimise the damage, it can be said that is following a parallel path (though not the same one) to the PSA Group, if we talk about French manufacturers. The savings made by Renault in 2012 were not enough to offset the drop in car sales the brand suffered across Europe as a whole.

Although the company managed to prevent 528 million euros from being spent on operating costs, it still posted losses. According to Carlos Ghosn, the car division of Renault lost 25 million euros the previous year. That does not seem like much if we look at the figures handled by industry giants of this kind, but it gives us an idea of the impact of the crisis over the past year: by way of comparison, in 2011 it earned 330 million.

That said, if we look at the figures for all the companies that make up the group, they generated a total profit of 1,772 million, which is also lower than the profits of 2011. Renault was helped by the sale of some shares in Volvo last year, together with the earnings of Nissan, AvtoVAZ and Volvo itself.

It is interesting to look at the results of its partners. The only one to make a profit was the Russian AvtoVAZ, with 186 million euros and a spectacular 276% increase over 2011. Both Nissan and Volvo followed the path of losses, as did most European manufacturers.
