The all-new Renault Captur arrives with a plug-in hybrid version in 2020

The Renault Captur arrives ahead of its presentation at the Frankfurt Motor Show with a novelty: it will equip a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

With the recent arrival of the all-new Renault Clio, it was only a matter of time before the Renault Captur poked its head out. For now, it is only an online presentation, as the world premiere in front of the public will take place at the Frankfurt Motor Show next September. As can be seen, the images match the leaks from a few weeks ago, revealing a completely new design, although it can still be recognised as a Renault Captur.

The compact crossover now looks much more athletic and dynamic on the outside, while adopting a cosier and more practical interior, as well as a comprehensive technology package.

It is the second model from the diamond brand to use the new CMF-B platform, after the Renault Clio. It is 110 mm longer and, as a result, rear-seat passenger legroom has increased by 17 mm, while boot capacity gains 81 litres for a total of 536 litres. The Renault Captur 2020 also offers a total of 27 litres of storage in the cabin.

The CMF-B architecture has also allowed Renault engineers to design the Captur from the outset to accommodate an electric powertrain and the latest electronic architecture. As a result, the crossover will benefit from the e-Tech Plug-in hybrid engine from 2020.

Essentially the same system as in the all-new Renault Clio. The electrified powertrain of the all-new Renault Captur will allow travel of up to 45 kilometres in pure electric mode, at speeds of up to 135 km/h. The system combines a 1.6-litre petrol engine with two electric motors and a 9.8 kWh battery pack.

Until the electrified propulsion engine is available, customers can choose from three petrol engines and two diesel engines. The petrol engines start with the 1.0-litre turbocharged TCe engines with 100 CV and 160 Nm of torque, the 1.3-litre TCe 130 with 130 CV and 240 Nm, and the TCe 155, which produces 155 CV and 270 Nm of engine torque. This most powerful unit is paired, as standard, with a seven-speed EDC dual-clutch transmission.

The diamond brand has stated that the all-new Renault Captur responds to the three pillars of future mobility as set out in the strategic plan. It is electric, connected and autonomous. The all-new Captur is the first plug-in hybrid model, equipped with a new multimedia system connected to the Renault Easy Connect ecosystem and numerous driver assistance systems.

“The all-new Renault Captur is at the heart of the Group’s strategy, which aims to strengthen synergies within the Alliance. This is achieved mainly through the development of common technologies and the use of new platforms, such as the CMF-B platform from which it benefits. Its new electrical and electronic architecture allows it to integrate the latest technological developments to meet the new demands of the market.” In addition, the market launch of the Renault Captur takes place within the framework of the Group’s strategic plan Drive the Future (2017-2022), and this model is one of its flagship vehicles.
