The Avatr 07 finally goes on sale in China

Although for the time being the Avatr 07 is only sold in China, Changan’s presence last month at the Automechanika trade fair held in the German city of Frankfurt makes us think that this electric SUV could end up reaching Europe as well.

The Avatr brand, the result of a collaboration between Changan, CATL and Huawei, has started selling its third model in China: the Avatr 07. This electric SUV stands out for being the first model from the brand offered in both a fully electric version and with a range extender, thus following the current trend in this market set by many manufacturers.

The Avatr 07 is available in three fully electric versions and three others with a range extender (EREV), in which the capacity of the battery pack is complemented by a combustion engine used exclusively to generate electricity. With dimensions of 4,825 x 1,980 x 1,620 mm and a wheelbase of 2,940 mm, the Avatr 07 is slightly larger than the Model Y. This comparison is no coincidence, since the brand itself positions this model as a direct competitor to the American manufacturer’s SUV.

As for prices and technical specifications, the fully electric versions of the Avatr 07 start at 229,900 yuan, which at the current exchange rate is roughly 29,800 euros. At 249,900 yuan – around 32,400 euros – for the mid-range version, and 289,900 yuan – around 37,500 euros – for the top-of-the-range version, which features dual motors and all-wheel drive, unlike the other two, which are rear-wheel drive.

You’ll find the best of CATL and Huawei in their respective fields in this electric SUV

The Avatr 07 stands out for having an 800-volt architecture across all its fully electric versions. It also features a 82.16 kWh Shenxing battery pack supplied by CATL with an extraordinary charging capacity. According to the manufacturer, the revolutionary technology used in this battery pack allows the state of charge to be increased from zero to 80 percent in just 20 minutes.

As for range, it reaches up to 650 km in the rear-wheel-drive versions and slightly less, 610 km, in the all-wheel-drive version. All under the fairly generous Chinese CLTC homologation cycle.

On the other hand, the maximum power in the versions with a single electric motor reaches 252 kW, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds. Meanwhile, the dual-motor version adds a front motor with 188 kW, thus reducing the 0 to 100 km/h acceleration to just 3.9 seconds.

As we already told you here on HighMotor, this Chinese electric SUV was presented last May, with the future availability of EREV versions announced months later in August.

Price and technical specifications of the EREV versions

The entry-level price of the electric model with range extender starts at 219,900 yuan – around 28,300 euros. That is, 10 thousand yuan less than the most affordable fully electric version. This EREV version features a 39 kWh battery pack with which it is possible to cover around 220 or 230 km, according to the manufacturer, which extends to over a thousand kilometers when the combustion engine kicks in as a generator.

Finally, it should be noted that both the fully electric and EREV versions of the Avatr 07 incorporate Huawei’s intelligent driving technology, and some of them even feature a 192-channel LiDAR for the proper operation of the Qiankun 3.0 driver-assistance system developed by Huawei. Likewise, inside the vehicle the infotainment system and instrument cluster run Huawei’s Harmony OS 4.0 operating system.
