The Dacia Duster 2024 confirms it: goodbye to the diesel engine

The third-generation Dacia Duster will arrive in 2024, and one of the novelties it presents is that it will lose the diesel engine, which will be replaced by a hybrid.

Dacia Duster 2024

In two years’ time, in 2024, the new Dacia Duster, the third generation of this SUV that has become one of the best-selling and most affordable models on the market, will arrive. And it will do so with a few changes. Some of them were already previewed a few months ago, while others have just come to light and affect the model’s engine range.

What we already knew is that the new generation will abandon the current platform it uses and will be built on the CMF-B platform of Renault. This will not change the dimensions of the compact SUV, which will continue to offer a length of 4.35 metres and a more than interesting price that will keep it one of the most attractive options.

But the most important change comes in the engines. The thing is that Dacia follows the trend set by its Sandero and Jogger models and drops the diesel engine. This is more significant than it seems, since just over 50% of the model’s sales correspond to this version.

Petrol and LPG engines

The new Dacia Duster forgoes the diesel engine and will focus on offering petrol and LPG engine options. The diesel will be replaced by the 1.6 E-Tech Hybrid engine. This consists of a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine, combined with a small electric motor, a starter-assist alternator and an automatic gearbox. Working together, it delivers an approximate output of 140 CV.

This engine has been tested in other Renault models, such as the Captur. In that model, a consumption of 4.2 litres per 100 kilometres has been homologated, and this figure is expected for the third generation of the Dacia Duster. Another version will be powered by a 1.8-litre unit, which will represent the top of the model’s range.

Another petrol version that will be present in the 2024 Duster will be the 1.2 TCe direct-injection engine, an engine that has been modified and improved for better performance and lower emissions. The LPG version will also be available, as in all of the brand’s models. That said, the practicality of this type of engine is called into question given the current price of gas. Still, bad times don’t last forever, and it will likely become a very suitable fuel for saving on running costs once again.
