The BMW M range of cars has always been the crown jewel of the brand. High-performance cars that do not give up the comfort typical of the German brand’s models. Until now, the possibility of abandoning combustion engines was not considered, but the time has come to change the essence of these models and finally equip the range with electric motors.

The BMW M3 will be the first in this category to reach the market, with its launch scheduled from 2027 onwards. To this end, it will use the electric propulsion system featured in the almost-present Neue Klasse, so it will have efficient motors that deliver the driving experience customers have come to expect from these models.

Four electric motors

The electric BMW M3 will have four electric motors. Two of them will be located at the front, while each of the two rear wheels will have a dedicated motor. One feature of this model is that the front axle can be disconnected, so the driver can enjoy rear-wheel drive and all the sensations this way of driving provides.

What BMW has not announced is the power output of the motors fitted to this model. Given that it is based on the traction system of the Neue Klasse, power will be significant and ready to deliver strong thrills to drivers.

The two front motors will work in parallel, while the rear ones, located on each wheel, allow the torque of each wheel to be controlled individually. Using rear-wheel drive will help increase range and efficiency. An advantage that will add impact to the way the car drives.

To enhance that sensation when driving, the electric BMW M3 will include simulated gear changes and a sound that gives it a different acoustic signature when driven. The cylindrical batteries of BMW will be present in the model and offer a capacity of 100 kWh. These battery packs have been designed to withstand the demands of track driving.

The design will include elements made from lighter materials, to offset the added weight of the electric drive system. To control the whole system, the high-performance control unit “Heart of Joy” will be used. It will manage the wheels and the steering. These electric M models will become cars that offer plenty of sporty sensations to their drivers.
