The Ferrari Testarossa is back, but it leaves behind the retractable headlights

One of the most iconic models of Ferrari was the Testarossa, a model that became popular through several television series and that marked an era in which this model was the one many people dreamed of driving. The Testarossa is back, but now it will receive a different treatment, closer to what we expect from it in our time.

The Ferrari Testarossa will arrive under the name Ferrari 849 Testarossa and, beneath an striking and powerful body, we will find a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that will make it the flagship of this category within the Manarello brand. A powerful V8 engine will be the main powerplant of the package, which delivers 819 CV.

The three electric motors that accompany the combustion engine add 217 CV to the package, bringing the total output to 1,035 CV. With these three electric motors, the Ferrari Testarossa will be able to run in fully electric mode for 25 kilometres, allowing it to move sustainably on urban routes.

Something that made the original Testarossa more attractive were the retractable headlights, which were hidden and only appeared when switched on. But today, that decorative feature that became popular in the 70s and 80s is not feasible. Current regulations do not allow this type of design, so since Ferrari an alternative has been sought that has not fully convinced, but has reached a compromise solution.

The headlights have been designed so that they are hidden behind a black strip visible on the front of the vehicle. This allows them to go unnoticed when not in use and to stand out with presence when they are switched on. It is a tribute to the classic Testarossa, but with the plug-in hybrid drivetrain and the most modern equipment possible that today demands.
