The Maxus MIFA 9 wants to take on the luxury of Mercedes. Will it be able to do so?

The Maxus MIFA 9 will arrive on the Spanish market with the aim of standing out in the electric MPV segment, offering comfort and quality.

There are Chinese brands arriving in Europe that we are paying close attention to. BYD and MG are presenting quite interesting vehicles that grab headlines and articles in the specialist media. Other brands are going almost unnoticed, yet their models are very present in our market. Maxus is one of those brands that is establishing itself in the market, but that we don’t pay much attention to.

Maxus belongs to the SAIC group, which also owns MG, so it is a fairly powerful brand. The brand is preparing the arrival of a new model in the European market, the MIFA 9. This is an electric MPV that aims to bring this type of body back into fashion, now in retreat in Europe.

A worthy finish and a larger size

The size of the Maxus MIFA 9 is quite large. It has a length of 5.27 metres, a width of 2 metres and a height of 1.84 metres, along with a wheelbase of 3.2 metres. This guarantees a very spacious, comfortable and attractive interior, capable of seating seven passengers.

It will be launched in two trim levels, although it has been announced that only the better-equipped of the two will reach Spain, the Premium trim. This will include Full LED headlights, a panoramic roof, electrically adjustable and heated seats, 19-inch alloy wheels and a driver assistance system offering level 2 autonomous driving. Inside, the leather upholstery with exposed stitching stands out.

Battery and motors

The MIFA 9 weighs 2,410 kg, including the 90 kWh battery. This allows a range of 470 kilometres under the WLTP cycle, although the brand claims that in urban conditions it can reach 580 kilometres on a single charge. To charge the battery, going from 30 to 80% capacity in just 30 minutes is possible when using a fast charger.

To move this vehicle, the Chinese manufacturer has opted for a single electric motor, located on the front axle, which delivers a power output of 183 kW, equivalent to 245 CV, and a maximum torque of 350 Nm.

There is no arrival date for the European market yet, although it is expected within a few months. As for the price, it has not been set yet, but it is expected to have a starting price of 68,990 euros in Germany. The brand guarantees that the battery will retain up to 75% capacity for at least eight years or 200,000 kilometres, which is not bad at all.
