The new BMW M140i could produce 400 hp and an electric range of 80 km

BMW plans to launch 25 electrified vehicles onto the market in 2023, of which 12 will be plug-in hybrids and 13 fully electric.

The electrification revolution has reached many manufacturers, and now it is the turn of the Bavarian brand. It could be considering launching a wide range of cars that would feature partial and even full electrification. One model that will join the change early, in 2020, will be the BMW 1 Series. This compact model could arrive next year with a plug-in hybrid version.

As some sources point out, the future BMW 1 Series plug-in hybrid could be named BMW 1 Series M140e and it may be powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo engine and an electric motor driven by a 35 kWh battery.

With these figures, the BMW 1 Series PHEV could offer 400 hp and a fully electric range of between 80 and 113 kilometres.

Other reports about a possible BMW X8 have existed since before the BMW X7 debuted as the brand’s flagship SUV. But the part that interests us concerns a possible M version of the big brother of the BMW X6, which everything suggests will reach the road in 2022.

BMW, revolutionised by electrification

If this turns out to be accurate, the big brother of the BMW X6 could deliver up to 750 hp. This power could come from combining a V8 engine with an electric motor. An RWB mode may also be available on request. This system could be very similar to that of the current BMW M5.

Leaving the rear courtyard of BMW M brings us to the cars of the i division of the German brand, and the list here is quite long, so be patient. The BMW iX3 is a BMW X3 based on CLAR with an RWD PHEV powertrain made for global markets, starting with China, and it will perhaps launch next year. Then there is the BMW iNext, which arrives a year later and is expected at the same time. For its part, the BMW i2 could be underway for an arrival in 2022.

In addition, the BMW Vision M Next Concept, while the BMW iX1 will replace the BMW i3 as a crossover reaching the market in at least three years. It is important to note that the BMW i5 and the BMW i7, electric derivatives of the upcoming 5 Series and 7 Series respectively, are also only a few years away from introduction.

The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will receive a complete makeover in 2022, gradually phasing out ICE engines in favour of an electric variant. Elsewhere, the successors to the outgoing BMW X3, BMW X5 and BMW X7, which are believed to reach the market between 2024 and 2027, will also produce zero-emission versions.

With the 30% increase in sales of electrified cars, BMW has set itself the goal of launching 25 vehicles with some form of electrification by 2023, two years earlier than originally planned. Everything points to the Bavarian brand having, by that date, twelve plug-in hybrid cars accompanied by 13 fully electric vehicles.
