The new Skoda Octavia has been spotted in some sketches, and we're absolutely buzzing with excitement.

The next generation of the Czech compact saloon has been glimpsed in some sketches that offer a preview of what the new Skoda Octavia will look like

In a market dominated by crossover-style bodies and qualities borrowed from MPVs that are on their way out, the decision to bring out offerings far removed from the mainstream, such as the new Skoda Octavia, deserves nothing less than the applause of the writer of this article.

Keeping a range of saloon cars, from a compact architecture like that of the Octavia itself up to a large saloon and flagship model like the Skoda Superb, serves only to show that these bodies remain as appealing as the latest offerings show us.

Skoda Superb 2020From cars like the new Peugeot 508, whose road test won us over with its design, to the Toyota Camry Hybrid, which is more spartan yet emotionally dynamic, saloons remain a key body style, and that is why Skoda continues to invest in them.

And to stay at the top of the monthly and annual sales Top 10, it is necessary to keep up technologically and visually and not fall into aesthetic obsolescence.

For this reason, Skoda is already working on the new Skoda Octavia and gives us a preview of what the fourth generation of one of the most popular cars in our country will be like. It is the best-selling car of the brand, part of the group of manufacturers that makes up the Volkswagen Group.

More dynamic, streamlined and attractive

The company’s design department, Skoda Design, shows two sheets outlining the essential features of the appearance that the production version will display when this model is presented under the spotlights in 2020.

Nuevo Skoda Octavia (3)At first glance, and taking this image as a conceptual preview, ignoring some enormous wheels that are more typical of the most extreme and sporty Audi than of a modest saloon, the large-diameter wheel arches sit on a body sculpted with softness.

The dynamism this car offers, with a bonnet sloping toward the ground and whose logo proudly crowns the front, rests on a grille made of lines that converge at the lower area of the bumper, allowing a continuous view of its silhouette from front to rear without interruption.

The unique configuration of its headlights is welcome, and the integration into a single, sharp, rectilinear light unit at each end only sharpens its front end.

Aided by an A-pillar with a sharp, progressive rake, the drop of the rear pillar, with a clear coupé inspiration, allows for a cabin roofline that is narrow but flows smoothly against the air.

Nuevo Skoda Octavia (2)The door panels feature horizontal ribs running in opposing directions, like edges that allow a more dynamic cut through the air as it moves. A body that, besides looking more muscular, is also elegant.

The rear is more than familiar thanks to lights very similar to those of the aforementioned Skoda Superb, though that is no bad thing. The large rear glass, set into broad C-pillars, will enhance the sense of interior space for its occupants and, in its overall profile, creates a footprint typical of a compact saloon that does not sacrifice generous dimensions for four occupants and their luggage in the boot.

The layout from the drop of the tailgate is robust and clean, leaving the letters that make up the brand name as the protagonist.

Nuevo Skoda Octavia (1)A car that adopts several solutions already seen on other cars, such as the front of the Skoda Scala and the rear of the Superb, but which combine with wise and elegant subtlety into a car with its own identity, as these preview images of the new Skoda Octavia show.
