The new Subaru Crosstrek debuts with a new look and drops the XV name

The Japanese brand’s compact crossover has just been completely renewed with new design features, more technological equipment and a single name

Subaru Crosstrek 3

The Subaru XV, also known as Crosstrek, was first presented in 2012 as a new compact-sized crossover, highly capable both off the asphalt and in the city, with a very Subaru design, a range of mechanical options and correct technological equipment.

After five years on sale, the second generation of the XV arrived in 2017 with a new platform, a single CVT gearbox for all engines, and a completely renewed look both inside and out, bringing new technology along with it.

Many changes outside and inside

Now, under the single name Crosstrek, Subaru has just presented the third generation of its popular crossover, which has undergone a very notable evolution in terms of design, while keeping practically the same dimensions, and with a new list of equipment and on-board technology.

Starting with its front look, the new Crosstrek features new light clusters with LED technology and a very sharp shape, a new bumper with a grille that has increased in size and, in short, a more stylized and modern face.

In profile, like its predecessor it has plastic cladding that raises the vehicle’s visual height, bringing out its more rugged side, optional new 17 or 18-inch wheels in black, and fairly clean shapes.

At the rear, the new generation debuts new LED taillights, a bumper with very pronounced shapes that give it a very robust look, and a tailgate that likewise features many style lines and pronounced ridges.

New infotainment system

Inside, we find a very high-tech atmosphere completely changed thanks to the new touchscreen for the infotainment system, measuring 11.6 inches, which we already know from other models of the brand, and which also incorporates the system that controls the climate control.

Unlike what happens in many new models from other brands, Subaru has decided to keep an analogue instrument cluster like the classic ones.

Under the hood, the new Subaru Crosstrek will mount a 2.0-litre engine block paired with a CVT automatic gearbox and Subaru’s AWD all-wheel-drive system, which now celebrates its 50th anniversary. For the moment, the brand has not decided to release more data on its power, other performance figures or arrival date in Europe, so we will have to wait to learn more.
