These are the 5 cheapest hybrid cars on the market

Hybrid cars with very low consumption, ECO label from the DGT and a price below 25,000 euros: don’t look any further, these are the five cheapest.

The offer of cars with hybrid technology keeps growing. And fortunately, it is growing in every market segment. A self-charging hybrid car, that is, one that does not have a plug, guarantees consumption almost on par with diesel and gives you the benefits granted by the DGT ECO label. And there is no longer any need to spend a large sum to access this technology.

It is true that there are also cars with petrol or diesel engines that also display the ECO label thanks to the use of light hybridisation or “mild hybrid”. Here you can read more about the differences between a hybrid car and a mild hybrid. But on this occasion we are going to set aside the “real” hybrids that need no plug, focusing instead on the five cheapest ones on sale in our market.

And as you will see, without exceeding a budget of 25,000 euros there is plenty to choose from: from a city car like the Toyota Yaris to a MPV like the Honda Yazz, a compact like the Corolla… or the Dacia Jogger, the first hybrid from Dacia, with estate bodywork and the possibility of up to seven seats. Let’s get to it.

Toyota Yaris Hybrid 120H

For 21,550 euros you get a Toyota Yaris Hybrid 120H, in the Active Tech trim. Not bad at all, as it already includes 16″ alloy wheels, a rear-view camera, a Toyota Touch 2 multimedia system with an 8″ screen and automatic climate control. But for around 1,000 euros more you can opt for the Style trim, which is more elegant, or GR Sport, which has a sportier look.

The best thing about the Yaris Hybrid is undoubtedly its consumption. It is a real “cooker” in the city, where it handles with surprising agility and it will not be difficult for you to keep the trip computer around 4 l/100 km. Nor does the Yaris Hybrid struggle on open roads. The 116 hp of its hybrid propulsion system provide a sufficient throttle response, although here fuel consumption is less impressive: the real average will be around 6.5 l/100 km, which is still a very good figure.

With very striking, youthful styling, as well as for its consumption and ease of driving, the Yaris Hybrid also stands out for a cabin that makes good use of its mere 3.9 metres in length; boot capacity is 285 litres. Here you can read a road test of the Toyota Yaris Hybrid, and these are its prices, according to the Toyota configurator:

  • Cash price: from 21,550 euros
  • Financed price: 20,650 euros; from 148 euros/month, 48 instalments with a deposit of 7,590 euros and a final instalment of 10,768 euros

Renault Clio E-TECH Hybrid

For a slightly higher price than the Yaris, the Renault Clio E-TECH hybrid is a more suitable alternative if you need a car to leave the city fairly often… and its small boot is not a problem. The Clio not only feels more refined to drive, but its 140 hp allow for a higher level of performance. In town the Yaris is unbeatable in terms of consumption, but the Clio offers a more favourable balance between fuel outlay and performance when the car is used for all kinds of journeys, including country roads and motorways.

Renault Clio E Tech

It is available in Equilibre, Techno and Engineered trims; budget carefully because, although it costs about 1,300 euros more, it is worth stepping up to the Techno trim, which adds features such as parking assistance, hands-free card, LED daytime running lights, rear camera or the Multi Sense system with different driving modes. Here you can read the road test of the Renault Clio E-TECH, and these are its prices:

  • Cash price: from 21,977 euros
  • Financed price: 21,976 euros; from 241 euros/month, 47 instalments with a deposit of 4,415 euros and a final instalment of 13,693 euros

Honda Jazz Hybrid

It has only 110 hp, even less than the Yaris Hybrid. But it must be said that the Honda Jazz’s propulsion system also works very well: for the use the car is intended for, it is hard to find situations where more pushing power is missed. It is a very pleasant car to drive, with which you can get around town with average consumption below 5 l/100 km, and around 6.5 l/100 km in mixed use. Compared with the Yaris and the Clio, and even with larger cars, the Jazz stands out for the space and versatility its cabin offers, both in the front and rear seats, making the most of its MPV character. Its boot is not bad either, at around 300 litres, and it has the practical Magic System seat folding of the Honda.

Honda Jazz 20

There are four trims to choose from, Comfort, Elegance, Executive and Crosstar, with details that give it an SUV feel. Even the base trim includes LED lights, the Honda Connect multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and satnav, keyless entry and start, parking sensors, or the full set of safety systems included in Honda Sensing. Here you can read the road test of the Honda Jazz Hybrid, and these are its prices. Note that the price when financing through the brand is 2,000 euros cheaper than buying cash.

  • Cash price: from 23,650 euros
  • Financed price: 21,650 euros; minimum 10,000 euros financed and 24-month commitment.

Toyota Corolla

The Toyota Corolla 5-door is the most affordable compact with hybrid technology on the market; a Touring Sports version with estate bodywork is also available, as well as the 4-door Sedan. It has just received an update, the most notable part of which is the increased power of the entry version, which goes from 122 hp to 140 hp thanks to a more powerful electric motor. It also incorporates a new, lighter battery. The result is greater acceleration and recovery, which translates into more enjoyable driving… without hurting consumption, which remains its strong point.

Toyota Corolla Oferta Highmotor 1

Other changes brought by the new Corolla range affect the interior, with a new multimedia system that includes a 10.5-inch screen from the Active Plus trim level upwards. The entry Business version is not badly equipped, but for 500 euros it is well worth opting for this second level, which already includes dual-zone climate control, alloy wheels and LED headlights.

  • Cash price: from 24,350 euros
  • Financed price: 23,350 euros; deposit of 7,237 euros and 48 instalments of 152 euros, final instalment of 14,335 euros

Dacia Jogger Hybrid 140

There is no other hybrid on the market with the characteristics of the Dacia Jogger Hybrid 140 at a similar price. Available from 24,450 euros, it offers five-seat estate bodywork with over 600 litres of boot capacity. And for 1,000 euros more you can opt for the three-row, seven-seat variant, which still leaves 500 litres for luggage when carrying five passengers. Its propulsion system is the same as the Clio E-TECH’s, working very well for a car capable of long-distance journeys. Average consumption will be around 6.5 l/100 km when driven calmly, approaching 5 l/100 km in urban settings.

With both the 5- and 7-seat versions, you can choose the Expression or S.L. Extreme trim, which costs 1,350 euros more. Worth noting is that the closest thing to the Jogger in size and body type is currently the Suzuki Swace, which costs a little under 26,000 euros.

  • Cash price: from 24,450 euros
  • Financed price: 23,350 euros; deposit of 4,690 euros and 37 instalments of 238 euros, final instalment of 14,841 euros
