This is how the new Ford GT's digital instrumentation looks

The Ford GT features solutions never before seen from the American brand, such as the fully digital 10-inch instrument display which, depending on the selected driving mode, will give different priority to the information it offers the driver.

There are legendary, iconic cars, and one of those that belongs to that privileged Hall of Fame is the Ford GT, a car we missed so much that since its return to production, reservations have exceeded expectations. At the end of this year the first unit will roll off the production line, so we won’t be long before we enjoy it on the road, if you’re lucky enough to own one or cross paths with one.

Now we know the details of a very important part of it, since it is responsible for providing all the information the driver needs: its instrument panel. In the new Ford GT it is fully digital, and all this information is displayed on a 10-inch screen that provides graphics and text, all inspired by competition, yet easily recognisable to aid driving and avoid distractions.

Its design was developed by bringing together the ideas contributed by Scott Maxwell, Le Mans champion, in support of the work carried out by the Ford engineers. What draws the most attention in its operation is the priority given to performance information and the redline of the tachometer for the EcoBoost V6, although its views change depending on the type of driving, so it is customisable.

When we are driving normally, the design presented is quite simple: the speedometer, gear selection and fuel level and temperature gauges are what stand out most. By contrast, the tachometer is shown in a compressed form for the lowest revs, since with so much power these revs add nothing for the driver, while the range between 3,000 and 7,000 rpm has the greatest presence.

If Wet mode is activated, the design will be practically the same as in normal mode, except that the theme changes to bluish tones and a legend “wet road” reminds you that this mode is active, and the graphics below the speedometer emulate the sheen of wet asphalt. In Sport mode, the favourite of test drivers, the priority is gear selection, while the speedometer moves to the far right of the screen in a less prominent way and the colours turn orange.

The most radical colours come together in Track mode: black background and highly legible graphics in red; gear selection and revs take centre stage, while water temperature, oil pressure and temperature and fuel level are displayed as percentages. Finally, in V-Max mode, the look is completely different and minimalist, with a large speedometer occupying the whole centre, so those seeking top speed have the information directly and without distractions.

For now, this type of instrumentation has been received only by the Ford GT, but the best part is that in the future other Ford models will benefit from this digital instrument panel.
