This is the Peugeot E-5008: seven seats and up to 660 kilometres of range

The new seven-seat SUV from Peugeot will be fitted with a battery that will allow it to cover up to 660 kilometres on a single charge.

We have already met the Peugeot E-5008, a large SUV that can carry up to seven people and that will be presented in several formats. The range will start with a mild hybrid engine, but it will also be possible to opt for a fully electric model. This is the version that attracts the most attention, as it is designed to position itself against the Tesla Model Y and take a good share of the market.

This model is built on the STLA Medium platform of the Stellantis group, making it the second model from the brand to benefit from all the innovations this technological base offers. The other model that uses it is, precisely, the smaller sibling of Peugeot’s new electric family, the 3008.

This platform allows for batteries of different capacities, so several configurations will be available to complement the electric range. It can also serve as the basis for different body styles, both for a mid-size SUV and for a larger one, as is the case with the two models based on it.

The new seven-seat SUV from the French brand measures 4.79 metres in length, 1.89 metres in width and 1.69 metres in height. Looking at the wheelbase, it offers 2.89 metres. These proportions place it in the D segment, bringing it closer to premium ranges.

Cabin features

Inside there is enough space for three rows of seats, allowing up to seven seats. In the second row there is a sliding bench whose backrests can be folded independently. The third row, with two seats, is accessed by sliding the second row forward and reclining the backrests.

When the vehicle is used in its five-seat configuration, the Peugeot E-5008 offers a boot capacity of 748 litres, while with the two seats of the third row this drops to 259 litres.

On the technology side it will feature a 21-inch curved screen, which includes both the instrument cluster and the infotainment system. A Head-Up Display has also been installed to present information more efficiently. Below the screen are several touch controls that can change their function according to the driver’s needs. The voice assistant is also available and is powered by ChatGPT.

It has four cameras, placed very close to the wheels, to keep the vehicle’s surroundings under control, in addition to several sensors that feed the driver-assistance systems.

Engines and batteries

Turning to the engines, the Peugeot E-5008 will offer electric versions with 4×2 and 4×4 drive. The final power outputs are not yet known, but given that it is a larger version of the E-3008, they could be 210, 230 and 320 hp. The most powerful will feature dual motors, one on each axle. These motors are manufactured at the Stellantis–Nidec plant in Trémery, France.

It is also unknown which battery Peugeot will use for this model, but it is expected to have a capacity of 98 kWh, the same one Stellantis produces at its Douvrin Billy-Berclau plant, also in France.

However, everything points to this model possibly also using batteries from other manufacturers. This is also the case with the Peugeot E-5008, which is equipped with a battery from a subsidiary of the BYD automotive group. If it uses the battery produced by Stellantis as the top-of-range option, it will offer a range of up to 660 kilometres.

It will be able to go from 10 to 80% charge in 30 minutes when charged with a DC charger of up to 160 kW. If the battery is connected to an AC grid, it can do so at 11 kW, although a 22 kW charger can be purchased as an option.

The smaller battery will offer 500 kilometres of range, making this a very practical vehicle that will attract several types of buyers over the coming years.

Mild Hybrid version

This model will also have a mild hybrid version, featuring a 1.2-litre Hybrid 136 petrol engine that produces 136 hp, and an electric motor coupled to the dual-clutch gearbox.

Two trim levels

The model will be available in two trim levels, Allure and GT. The entry level offers several options that make it quite an interesting car. This trim includes keyless entry and start, rear parking sensors and rear camera, and 19-inch alloy wheels, among other features.

The GT trim adds to the entry-level equipment 20-inch alloy wheels, higher-quality LED headlights, front parking sensors and other comforts to make everyday use more pleasant.

In addition, up to 500 kg of its total weight has been made from recycled materials, such as plastics and aluminium. Chrome decorative details have also been removed, anticipating the new European regulation in this regard.
