Three cars with engines that have nothing to do with them

Three cars with engines that have nothing to do with them

Unusual, different engines in cars that were never built to take them.

Engine swaps in most medium or small cars usually go toward a larger, more powerful engine. However, there are not many cases of V8 engines being replaced by six-cylinder or rotary engines, nor is it common for a glorious six-cylinder Porsche to be replaced by a brutal V8.

The first example I want to show you is a Mustang with a Toyota Supra engine. Where the 5-litre engine used to be, the Japanese six-cylinder now stands, prepared to deliver 900 horsepower. Obviously, the result is far better than if this Mustang still had its original engine. A case of returning the favour for every Japanese car that got an American V8 fitted.

A Wankel rotary engine would not be the first choice for anyone preparing a machine for drag racing. However, the owner of this Chevy Nova decided the best choice was not a V8, but a Mazda 13B engine, widely used in the Mazda RX-7.

We finish this varied showcase with a Porsche 911. In this case, you won’t find a tuner Porsche, but a Porsche converted to a V8 engine, specifically a GM LS7. There have already been tuner projects with V8 engines for the Porsche, so let’s say this one doesn’t stray too far from the norm. As a curiosity, this V8 produces 550 horsepower and weighs less than the original “6” of the Porsche.
