Tiguan Volkswagen Hybrid Cars Concepts
Volkswagen Tiguan GTE Active Concept, plug-in and adventurous

The Volkswagen Tiguan was completely redesigned a few months ago, ahead of the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Now, VW has wanted to take the spirit of the car a step further with the launch of a prototype that showcases the capabilities of the small German SUV.
Right from its first official presentation, Volkswagen revealed a plug-in hybrid variant of the second-generation Tiguan, its smallest SUV model. Called the Tiguan GTE Concept, it used a powertrain very similar to that of other models from the brand with a hybrid setup already on sale, such as the Golf GTE and the Passat GTE.

Externally, the GTE Active Concept shows the more adventurous and rugged side of the Tiguan, with black plastic trim, reinforced bumpers and a roof with additional lighting and roof rails. Also notable are the alloy wheels with a specific design in anthracite colour, fitted with off-road tyres, which reinforce the Tiguan’s image.
Inside, there are no notable changes, the most significant novelty being the inclusion of the new MIB infotainment multimedia system with a 9.2-inch screen that supports the use of gestures to carry out certain actions.

Mechanically, the Tiguan GTE Active Concept features a somewhat evolved plug-in hybrid system, since unlike the one found, for example, in the Golf GTE, it consists of a combustion engine (1.4 TSI 150 CV) and two electric motors, one of 54 CV on the front axle and 114 CV on the rear axle. In total, there are 220 CV, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, with the top speed limited to 200 km/h.
In electric mode it achieves a maximum range of 32 km, while in hybrid mode it offers a total range of 933 km. Thanks to the motor configuration mentioned above, this prototype can drive in front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive or even all-wheel drive.
