The dieselgate has caused serious consequences for Volkswagen’s plans, and not only in the short term. This has led to several medium- and long-term plans being changed, and efforts have been redoubled to recover the money lost to the scandal, which was no small sum. Among these plans is the use of the company’s same MQB platform, which has been designed so that it can be modified to serve as the basis for several models in the group.
The platform has been adapted so that a higher technological level has been incorporated, allowing it to serve for the development of several models. And the news is that it will not only serve for one more generation, but the MQB platform will also be able to support the technological advances that will emerge in the coming years. This will allow it to continue being used for one more generation, considerably reducing costs.

A very practical modular platform
The use of the modular MQB platform will allow the different brands of Volkswagen to share this platform for several models. With this common design for all front-wheel-drive vehicles, the Volkswagen Group will have a common base on which to build these models, and the savings achieved will be considerable.
This platform is not new, as it has been the basis of many of the models the Volkswagen Group has manufactured since it began to be used. In 2014, two million units were built on this platform. In 2018, around seven million cars are expected to be manufactured on the MQB platform. As for the savings expected from using the same skeleton, they amount to more than four billion dollars.
