XPENG G6, the electric SUV that wants to dominate the global market
The Chinese brand has announced the features of the XPENG G6, a model that aims to position itself against the Tesla Model Y and offers many similar features.

The electric SUV segment is one of the most active in the market, at least when it comes to new models. All the major brands want to have one or several models of this type on the market. Above all, since the Tesla Model Y was unveiled as the best-selling car in the world, surpassing combustion-engine models. So it is no surprise that a model from China is arriving that aims to take on the Tesla on equal terms.
The XPENG G6 has a lot in common with the Tesla Model Y, as it shares much of the model’s style and features, but at the same time, it departs from it. We have been able to see the final design of the model these past few days, and we have also seen its performance. The car has been presented in China and will arrive in Europe, if all goes well, within a while.

Dimensions and features
In terms of styling, we see that it features an SUV body that we would expect from a vehicle of this type. That said, it does not have a very high ground clearance, so it can be considered a crossover with a coupe-style silhouette. Its length reaches 4.75 metres, its width totals 1.92 metres and its height is 1.65 metres. The wheelbase is 2.89 metres, which allows for quite a generous interior space.
The roofline slopes down towards the rear from the B-pillar, although the roof height still guarantees good headroom inside. The boot offers a capacity of 571 litres, although with the rear seats folded down it can reach 1,374 litres. It has no second boot, something other electric models take advantage of to use the space freed up by the combustion engine in traditional cars.

Engines and batteries
The platform this model is built on is the SEPA 2.0, which gives the vehicle 800-volt technology. As for the powertrain, a version with a single motor will be offered, which will deliver a power output of 218 kW, equivalent to 292 CV. Buyers will also have access to a dual-motor version, which provides a combined output of 358 kW, that is, 480 CV.
The battery uses silicon carbide and will be available in several formats, which are not yet known. According to the company, it will offer a range of between 580 and 780 kilometres, always under the Chinese CLTC homologation cycle. Apparently, it will feature a fast-charging system that will allow the battery to recover 300 kilometres of range in just 10 minutes.
And, speaking of price, XPENG has announced that cars of this model will have a price of between 200,000 and 300,000 yuan, which will equate to a price in euros of between 27,000 and 34,000 euros at the current exchange rate. When it arrives in Europe, this price will increase due to the costs arising from export, so we do not know how much it will cost. The brand’s forecasts are to sell between 6,000 and 8,000 units a month in its country of origin, but that remains to be seen.
