25 cars with incredibly cool headlights
The 25 cars with incredibly cool headlights have gone down in history for their originality, not to mention their imposing presence. Do we know them?
Headlights can make or break a car’s design. Here are some of our favorites. They are one of the most important aspects of a vehicle’s look, which is why we have dedicated a complete list to the 25 cars with incredibly cool headlights. Here are some of the best headlight designs. Let’s go!
Bugatti Chiron

Most headlights are round, but not those of the Bugatti Chiron. The cluster shape is a large rectangle, and the daytime running lights are square. It is a very menacing package that could not be missing from the selection of models with incredibly cool headlights.
Cizeta V16T

Besides having a transversely mounted 16-cylinder engine, the Cizeta V16T also has four individual pop-up lights. Because a set of incredibly cool headlights simply wasn’t enough.
McLaren P1

The P1 was the first McLaren to use the company’s boomerang-shaped headlights, which were later used on the models 570S, 600LT, 650 and 675LT. It is meant to resemble the shape of the McLaren logo. Very clever.
Lancia Stratos Zero

At first glance, you might think the Stratos Zero concept has no headlights at all. Look a little closer. The edge of the nose is actually a strip of lights.
Alfa Romeo SZ

Of course, the Bugatti was not the first car to achieve the horizontal square headlight look. The Alfa Romeo SZ came out decades ago and has the same type of design.
Dodge Charger

The first chargers like this one had headlights mounted inside the grille rather than beside it. When not in use, the lights would be covered by a piece of imitation grille that makes it look like the car has no headlights at all. Very nice things.
Alfa Romeo Brera

The Brera hatchback is an incredibly beautiful model, designed by Pininfarina. Its look is backed by that decisive fascia that incorporates three circular headlights aligned side by side.
Opel GT

The Opel GT features fairly normal round headlights: its look is great. Instead of flipping up like a normal pop-up, they rotate longitudinally clockwise. It catches you off guard the first time you see it.
Buick Riviera

The 1965 Buick Riviera is known for its exclusive headlight clamshells. They open from top and bottom to reveal a set of vertically stacked bulbs.
Lamborghini Miura

At first glance, you may not notice anything special about the Lamborghini Miura’s headlights. But when you turn them on, the pods are pushed outward and angled toward the road. Quite ingenious for a car designed in the mid-1960s.
Jaguar XJ220

The XJ220 supercar of the Jaguar nineties is great for many reasons, but one that most people don’t know about is the headlights. Instead of jerking upward to reveal the beams, the covers drop downward on the car. Interesting stuff.
Vector W8

Like the Jaguar, the low-production Vector W8 also has “pop-up” headlight flaps. The only difference is that the style is a bit squarer, which makes sense given the car’s angular design.
Aston Martin V12 Vantage

The headlights of the Vantage are simple but, like the rest of the car, exude style. More elaborate headlights would only distract from the rest of the car and its beautiful design.
Honda NSX

Pop-up headlights may not be as aerodynamic, but they will always be cool. Honda turned them into an art form with the original NSX, designing a car that looked elegant with its headlights both up and down.
Audi R8

The Audi R8 was not the first Audi to get LED lights for running, but it was definitely the most recognizable. These days, it seems every CUV and family sedan has LED bling, but let’s not forget which car started that trend.
Chevrolet Corvette C4

Unlike most pop-up headlights, which simply move up and down to reveal the projectors, the C4 Corvette’s pop-ups rotate a full 180 degrees. It may not be as simple mechanically, but it is fascinating to watch.
BMW 5 Series

Audi made LED running lights its signature style in the mid-to-late 2000s, but a few years earlier, BMW created its own signature: angel eyes. The E39 received a mid-cycle update in 2001, and with it came the iconic halo lights.
Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

Following the success of the first-generation Corvette, the style of the C2 went in a completely different direction. Its fastback coupe shape and split rear window became iconic Corvette design elements, as did its hidden headlights, which became a Corvette trademark until 2005.
Porsche 928

The pop-up headlights of the Porsche 928 are unique because the capsules remain visible even when the lights are off. During the day, the lights line up with the body and give it an elegant, fresh look. When turned on, the capsules rise to aim at the road in a hilariously vertical way.
Citroen DS

The Citroen DS was one of the most influential models ever produced, with features such as front-wheel drive, disc brakes and self-leveling suspension. Its front is also dominated by a set of quad headlights that somehow manage to make four simple circles look cool. In addition, the inner headlights steer with the front wheels, a feature now associated with high-end luxury cars.
Pontiac GTO

The Pontiac GTO is responsible for kicking off the American muscle car trend. While there have been four generations of GTO, the most iconic is, of course, the first. The stacked quad headlights became a signature Pontiac feature, partly because they look great here.
Porsche 718

Daytime running lights have come a long way since the angel eyes of BMW. The Porsche is on the Boxster 718. In a sea of generic LED strips, the 718 stands out with its minimalist four-point design.
Tucker 48

In the early days of car design, headlights were nothing more than round lamps that generally lit the way at night. Preston Tucker gave the Tucker 48 a central lamp that steered with the wheels to make it easier to see through curves, creating a distinctive style that helped highlight the car’s emphasis on safety.
Volvo XC90

Volvo is ready to take on Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz with the redesigned XC90 and the upcoming S90. To help give its new cars an identity, both get the “Thor’s hammer” headlights that look exactly as cool as they sound.
Mazda MX-5 Miata

The original Miata headlights are not particularly special or unique; they are simply a good design. The large round housings create a pleasant, easy-to-read fascia that looks as good as the car with its headlights hidden. For cars with pop-up headlights, that is not always the case.
