Taking advantage of the press release from Peugeot talking about the launch of the Peugeot iOn, I was thinking about the electric vehicles that PSA had already brought to market between 1993 and 1999. This refers to the Peugeot 106 électrique, that is, an electric 106 that was only sold in France. The Citroën AX électrique was also sold. In 1993, a pilot experiment by the PSA group to test its electric vehicles began in the French town of La Rochelle.
In that pilot experiment, 25 Citroën AX Électrique and another 25 Peugeot 106 Électrique were tested, an experiment carried out to verify the feasibility of these vehicles for urban use. From then on, both electric models went on sale in France, with very few leaving the French borders.
The Citroën AX électrique featured a motor designed by the company Leroy-Somer, a direct current motor controlled by an electronic unit. Its power is 20 kilowatts and it reaches a top speed of 91 km/h. It had no gearbox, only a button on the centre console that, when pressed, engages reverse by changing the rotation of the motor.
For its part, the Peugeot 106 électrique used the same system as its sibling, the AX, but as far as is known it had a higher top speed, reaching up to 110 km/h. The range of the electric 106 was between 80 and 100 km (depending on driving style), and 80% of the batteries could be recharged in two and a half hours, needing six hours for a full charge.
Both models also featured a redesigned instrument panel, where the rev counter disappeared and an electric power gauge and a battery charge indicator appeared. As a curiosity, it’s worth mentioning that a company from Asturias has several versions of the Peugeot 106 électrique and other electric models for sale as used vehicles.
Moreover, the PSA group has tested several electric models or never marketed them on a large scale , such as the Berlingo, which also had an electric version. And in 1995 the French government launched a plan to encourage the purchase of electric vehicles (a kind of MOVELE Plan) with the aim of having 100,000 electric vehicles by 1999. Therefore, the new Citroën C-Zero and Peugeot iOn already had several predecessors (there were even electric Citroën Saxo), although they were timid presences in the market or restricted to major institutions.

Que mala suerte tubieron estos coches, es una pena yo tengo un Peugeot 106 eléctrico del 2002 de los ultimos de fabrica y ba de vicio por ciudad esperemos que el Ion tenga mas acogida por las ventajas de la zona azul y demas.
Thinkcoslada, me gustaria compartir informacion sobre estos coches. Resulta que yo adquiri uno que llegó a Amercia y me falta basicamente el cablel que tiene en uno de los extremos la espiga electrica que sirve de púente entre la fuente de carga y el auto. Esta pieza aparece en la foto segunda y tercera. Tienes idea donde podria adquirirla preferentemente de segunda mano? Tambien necesito el manual o instructivo de funcionamiento. De antemano quedo muy agradecido. jose

Hago un llamado a quien tenga informacion sobre COMO PROCEDER A PONER EN MARCHA UN PEUGEOT 106 ELECTRICO MODELO 1996.- Este coche llegá a America y por falta de informacion nunca pudimos hacerlo caminar. Su recorrido es de treinta mil kilometros, deduzco que fue usado en el proyecto la Rochell, porque tiene una calcomania adherida al vidrio delantero. Primero se perdio el cable alimentador externo de baterias, y es probable que las baterias ya no reciban carga. Ojalá alguien pueda orientarme en el sentido de indicarme que es lo mas recomendable para hacerlo funcionar. Mi correo es [email protected] Gracias
