Citroën reaffirms its commitment to Formula E next season

Citroën will maintain its presence in Formula E next season with the arrival of fourth-generation single-seaters on the circuits.

As we already told you here at HighMotor, this past weekend Stellantis announced a readjustment in the commitment of the group’s various brands to Formula E for the next season. DS Automobiles announced its withdrawal after eleven years competing in the championship, with Opel -another of the group’s brands- taking over its place. Following this important announcement, Citroën has now confirmed its commitment to the competition for the next season.

The French brand will extend its presence in Formula E into the new Gen4 era, which begins next season, the thirteenth. The current season is being contested with the updated Gen3 single-seaters, but from the 2026/2027 campaign the fourth-generation single-seaters will enter action, which will increase their maximum power to up to 600 kW.

Citroën still has a lot to say in this competition

Citroën’s track record in Formula E is fairly limited, as it made its debut in this competition this very season. Its participation began as a consequence of the departure of Maserati after having competed for three years. Throughout that time, DS Automobiles had been the main “A-team” responsible for developing the electric powertrain, while Maserati acted as the customer team.

“At Citroën, innovation must serve real life. Formula E, and now Gen4, is our way of turning electric performance into everyday progress. Motorsport has always been part of our DNA, and we are proud to take full part in this new chapter”

Although the FIA has not yet published the complete official calendar for season 13, it is expected to begin in early December 2026, most likely the first weekend of that month. The most notable circuit for the opening race is the Anhembi Sambódromo in São Paulo (Brazil), which has already hosted several recent seasons and is usually the chosen venue for major debuts, although, as we say, this has not yet been confirmed.
