Euro 2016: What car does each national team drive?
The national football teams taking part in Euro 2016 have been the stars of a montage in which each one has been assigned a car that represents its main characteristics and which, according to the author, is closely related to each country.

Euro 2016 is in full swing and the national teams are giving everything they’ve got on the pitch. And at times like these, there’s always some handy fan who dares to work with Photoshop to create something funny and interesting about the thing that excites him so much. A few months ago we saw images created to give each movie superhero their car; now we’re going to see which car suits each football team, thanks to the work of one of these fans with design skills.
Each team appearing in these images has its car, a vehicle that, in the eyes of the creator of the images, captures some of its virtues and characteristics. Not all of them are there, but those that are have a car that, seen from here, seems to capture exactly that. Shall we take a look?
France’s Bugatti Chiron
The French are the hosts of the European tournament, so they are the first to appear in this experiment. The car industry is important in our neighbouring country, so choosing a car could be difficult. The one that seems to represent them best is the Bugatti Chiron, shown in this image painted in the national team’s colours. The supercar’s 1,500 CV seems to represent well the unstoppable force of the Gallic players.
England’s Jaguar F-Type SVR
The English team could travel aboard an Jaguar F-Type SVR, the latest model from the big cat brand, which would put all rivals on the back foot. A quintessentially English car fitted with a supercharged V8 engine that provides the power needed to make rivals sweat when they face it.

Mercedes AMG GT R, Germany’s car
The latest model in the AMG GT family could go head-to-head with the previous one, and with most of the other selected cars, and hold its own without problems. This car is not the most powerful built in the country, but it has more than enough capacity to offer a mix of power, presence and know-how to win the Euro of the most coveted cars.

The Italians drive a Ferrari LaFerrari Spider
Italy is another country where we might have doubts about which car to choose. So many beautiful, powerful and wonderful cars… But the one called up alongside the Italian squad is the Ferrari LaFerrari Spider. This convertible appears in the image giving its all on the pitch, driven by Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, who uses all its power to become an insurmountable obstacle for his rivals.

Sweden chooses the Koenigsegg One:1
There are few doubts about the car chosen for Sweden. The country’s best-known and most highly valued supercar (and possibly the world’s) is at the front line of this national team. It impresses with its capabilities and its looks. More than one rival would stop to admire it and suffer for their carelessness.

Ireland goes back to the past with the Delorean DMC-12
Here we were left speechless. But everything has its explanation. The DMC-12 was assembled in Ireland, so it has a connection with the country. Moreover, it represents the strength the Irish national team had in the 1980s, which had recently lost form and has now recovered to be measuring itself against the great European teams in France. Seen that way, it’s not a bad choice.

Skoda Kodiaq, the future flagship of the Czech Republic
It has not yet hit the market, but it is destined to be the flagship of the Czech brand. The Kodiaq represents the effort, power and endurance needed on the pitch. So I think it is not only an excellent choice, but also offers another way to enjoy the image of this new SUV proposal that debuted in Alaska.

The Romanian national team chooses the Dacia Duster
The Dacia Duster would be a worthy rival to the Kodiaq, one that would challenge it with resistance, power and versatility for tough terrain. It’s not a supercar and doesn’t seem to match up to other national teams, but it is robust, efficient and capable of more than one surprise.

The classic Lada Riva represents the Russian national team
Fair enough. They could have chosen another car here, but it is also true that it is possibly the most iconic car of the Soviet industry, a robust car able to move in complicated conditions. It has little to do with today’s Russia, but it’s certainly something that will get them going against their rivals.

And Spain?
We’ve left it for last, and not to belittle it. Our lads have been represented by a Seat León Cupra, one of the latest models from the Spanish brand, which projects a bold, dynamic and fighting image. So we couldn’t have a better representative for our national team. Some would argue we could be better represented by the GTA Spano, the supercar designed and built in Valencia, but I’m quite happy with this model.
