KAMManufaktur achieves the lightest 912c in history thanks to carbon fibre

The Porsche 912 is turned into the 912c by KAMManufaktur, which, through the extensive use of carbon fibre, noticeably reduces its original weight

The Porsche 911 marked the start of its legacy and legend in the 1960s, when it was launched on the market and subsequently, one after another, was joined by several versions designed to meet the needs of its customers according to their preferences, since back then you could choose between a very basic 911 or one that looked very much like those used in competition.

Among the versions that Porsche offered at the time of the 911 was the one known as the 912, which was an economy version that did not differ aesthetically from the “normal” 911. As you can imagine, the difference lay in its mechanics, which used the four-cylinder, 1,600 cc flat engine that the brand fitted to the 356 SC instead of the six-cylinder, 2,000 cc flat engine.

Obviously the power was not comparable, but that did not stop it from carrying the character of Porsche and the 911. With this engine the 912 had just 95 CV, but on the other hand it offered greater balance and lightness, which allowed it to reach 100 km/h in a little over a respectable 11 seconds, which for the time was nothing to be ashamed of. Today the 912 is once again in the spotlight thanks to KAMManufaktur, the Hungarian specialist in restomods with several Porsche models in its catalogue as the main stars.

912c is the name of this restomod, which, thanks to KAMManufaktur, receives a twist on one of the core pillars of this model: its lightness. The Hungarian tuner has used carbon fibre to create two bodywork options that considerably reduce the weight of the 912. Specifically, there will be a first option in semi-carbon, which keeps the original roof and steel rear panels, combined with carbon fibre for the rest of the bodywork, bringing the weight down to an incredible 750 kilograms.

With this first option KAMManufaktur has managed to shave more than 300 kilograms off the 912c compared with an original 912, but wait, there’s more, because the second option is to remove the original bodywork and replace it with a similar one in carbon fibre, which cuts another 50 kilograms, bringing the scales down to an impressive 699 kilograms. This option will also let buyers choose from several finish options, and achieve a weight distribution very close to 50-50.

If the 912 already achieved very respectable figures in its day thanks to its small four-cylinder flat engine, those will now be improved, as KAMManufaktur will make a series of modifications to the engine that extract 170 CV, which will undoubtedly delight all of its owners. On top of all this come other details: seat options designed by the tuner itself, improved air conditioning, or the possibility of fitting a modern infotainment system in keeping with the model’s retro aesthetic.

Be warned, as you can imagine, all of this is not going to be cheap. The semi-carbon option will cost no less than 360,000 euros, which can be reduced to 320,000 euros if you supply a 912 as a donor; while those who opt for the full carbon version will have to pay 400,000 euros, a figure that drops to 360,000 euros if you contribute a 912.
