Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) arrives to power the Citroën C3
The new Citroën C3 PureTech 82 LPG is the ECO version of the model, which can run on both petrol and Liquefied Petroleum Gas, with lower emissions

The shift from traditional fuels to alternative fuels is unstoppable. We are seeing hybrid and 100% electric vehicles gradually gaining ground in the market. But there are also other fuels making their way and offering alternatives to these without depending on a plug and with refuelling methods much faster than electric charging.
The Citroën C3 PureTech 82 LPG uses the same PureTech 82 engine, although adapted to run on this fuel, which is also derived from petroleum but allows for lower consumption and even much lower emissions of polluting gases than petrol and diesel. Autogas, the other name by which this fuel is also known, also has a lower price than traditional fuels, which also translates into savings when refuelling.

This version of the model is based on the Citroën C3 Feel trim and can run on either petrol or LPG, interchangeably. A specific cylinder head has been added to the engine, in which the valves and their seats have been reinforced, to make it possible to run in this way. The Autogas is stored in a toroidal tank of 33.6 litres, which has been placed in the space reserved for the spare wheel. In this way, it avoids taking up boot space.
To fill the tank, a safety valve is used, located next to the petrol tank filler, so refuelling is simple. This type of fuel is precisely where it outperforms electric cars, as there are quite a lot of charging points and filling the tank is quick. In Spain there are 555 LPG refuelling points, so a refuelling point can be found quite easily.
As for the vehicle fleet running on LPG, there are around 55,000 vehicles, a number that will likely grow thanks to the ECO classification from the DGT, which means they can be exempt from the restrictions imposed on driving in the centres of European cities. The Citroën C3 PureTech 82 LPG can be ordered at the dealership, at a price of 15,000 euros.
