Moscow Motor Show 2012: new Audi R8 Spyder and Coupe

Audi unveils the new generation of the Audi R8 in Moscow as a world premiere, mainly with changes to the V10 engine’s powertrain and some minor bodywork modifications.

Among the most important highlights of the Moscow Motor Show, we have shown you the world premiere of the new Mazda6, and now we move on to a completely different segment: that of the coupés and spyders from Audi R8. The brand with the rings has already come a long way with the R8 V10, and now it shows us its latest foray with a very subtle redesign of both 8- and 10-cylinder models.

It’s no coincidence that Audi is part of VAG, just like Lamborghini. And if you still haven’t guessed the relationship between them, you’ll see it when you take a close look at this new R8, so similar to the Lamborghini, especially in its convertible version. Although there is competition between them, the R8 V10 still uses basically the same V10 as the Gallardo Spyder, though with a more refined redesign now, which in the case of the Italian bull is the case.

The minor changes to the new R8 convertible (which will also apply to the coupé) make it a little more restrained in its design than the previous model. Audi has decided to revise the front and rear bumpers, add new LED clusters, a new diffuser, new exhaust pipes and an R8 logo different from the previous model.

But the main change has been in the powertrain: it has moved from the R-Tronic gearbox to the S-Tronic dual-clutch gearbox (optional on the V8 model), to an engine with slightly more power and lower emissions, component-level changes to the brakes (with lighter discs), or launch control at the touch of a button.

Alongside the R8 V10 versions, the Plus version is also being shown in Moscow, featuring a slightly more powerful V10 and modifications to the wheels and more carbon-fibre elements.

Before the end of the year, the new R8 range will go on sale across Europe, with prices ranging from 115,000 euros for the V8 up to almost 160,000 for the Plus version.
