The SUV body has become the most in-demand among buyers around the world. So it is no surprise that manufacturers focus on it to offer their latest novelties. Even in the field of electric vehicles, which are gradually gaining ground in the international market. NIO is a Chinese brand that is managing to reach Europe with interesting proposals, and with the NIO EC7 it is going to strengthen its presence on the continent.

This SUV with a coupé character coupé has several interesting features that will make it an object of desire for many drivers. But where we are going to focus is on the range that this model is claimed to enjoy, according to the Chinese manufacturer. It will come with three trim levels, with three different battery packs. In the top range, the promised range is 940 kilometres.

Three batteries to choose from

The entry-level version will come with a battery pack with a capacity of 75 kWh. This will allow a range of up to 489 kilometres. The mid-level battery will have a capacity of 100 kWh, allowing a range of up to 653 kilometres, and finally a 150 kWh battery that will reach that promised range of 940 kilometres. That said, all these figures are homologated under the CLTC cycle, which is considerably less demanding than the WLTP cycle used in Europe. This means that under this standard, the real range will be somewhat lower.

As for the motors, there is no official confirmation, but the NIO EC7 is expected to feature two motors that will offer a power output equivalent to 645 CV and a maximum torque of 850 Nm.

The batteries of the NIO EC7 can be swapped at Power Swap battery exchange stations, of which NIO has already presented the third generation, faster and more efficient than the previous ones.

Exterior design

The NIO EC7 is built on the same platform used by the NIO ES7. It has a length of 4,968 mm, a width of 1,974 mm and a wheelbase of 2,960 mm, which allows a spacious and comfortable interior. These dimensions make it very similar to other mid-size electric SUVs, such as the Audi Q8 E-tron, the BMW iX and the upcoming Polestar 3.

The interior features quite an important technology package. It has two multimedia screens, up to 12.8 inches and with AMOLED technology. In addition, the instrumentation can be viewed on a large Head-Up display. At the front it features LED matrix headlights and a state-of-the-art LiDAR radar, which guarantees good passive and active safety.

As for the price, in China it will be launched with a price equivalent to 65,800 euros for the base version, although it is expected to offer a long-term rental scheme that will make it a very attractive option.
