Nuuk: the Bosch and Rieju electric motorcycle has a range of 300 km

Bosch and Rieju are developing an electric motorcycle with capacity for four lithium-ion batteries. It will reach the market next September.

Today the electric motorcycle called Nuuk was presented, born from the collaboration between two major manufacturers: Bosch and Rieju. The Spanish motorcycle manufacturer and the German engineering company have created a completely innovative urban motorcycle concept. The Nuuk offers up to four lithium-ion batteries and a range that is truly revolutionary: up to 300 km. It is available in two power versions, and we know that the more performance-oriented variant costs €5,990 + VAT (including two batteries as standard). Series production of this electric motorcycle starts in next September.

High stability and safety

One of the problems that most penalises small motorcycles (125 cc or less) is their lack of stability, something in which the Nuuk apparently excels. The Bosch and Rieju electric motorcycle offers a series of features that enhance riding safety: it features 17-inch wheels, has a very well-balanced weight distribution (the battery is placed at the lowest and most central point, lowering its centre of gravity), incorporates inverted fork suspension (somewhat unusual in this category of motorcycles) and offers a high-quality braking system with combined braking; the front and rear wheels are actuated simultaneously when we squeeze the front brake lever, in a 70/30 ratio. The rear brake lever, meanwhile, brakes only the rear wheel.

Propulsion system and BOSCH technology

The Nuuk’s electric propulsion system was developed by Bosch and is available in two versions: 4 kW and 10.5 kW. The first of these versions weighs 125 kg and offers the performance of a moped (top speed of 45 km/h), while the second is equivalent to a traditional 125cc motorcycle in performance terms: it reaches a top speed of 115 km/h, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in about 6 seconds and weighs 140 kg. The more performance-oriented version of the Nuuk can be ridden with a car driving licence.

The instrument display of the Nuuk was also manufactured by Bosch and allows, among other things, selecting three riding modes and displaying the available range.

3 versions: Urban, Tracker and Cargo

The Nuuk is available in three versions: Urban, Tracker and Cargo. As its name suggests, the first of the variants is focused on urban use. The Tracker version has a more off-road orientation: it features mixed-tread tyres and a suspension setup better suited to unpaved terrain than the other versions, although let us not forget that this is not a field motorcycle. Finally, the Cargo version has been designed for the urban delivery sector. Companies such as SEUR have already used this motorcycle.

It is important to highlight that the rear seat is adjustable in all versions, which allows transporting an object in the area left free by the seat.

Range of up to 300 km

The Nuuk comes with two 50 A lithium-ion batteries as standard, which provide a range of 110 km in the 10.5 kW version. However, in September a version with four batteries will reach the market, increasing the electric motorcycle’s range up to 300 km.

The charging time of these batteries at a power of 1.2 kW (standard socket or public charging points found on the streets) is about 5 hours, but it also has a fast-charging system that reduces these times considerably.

The batteries are removable and each one has a weight of 13 kg. To transport them, the motorcycle will have wheeled panniers at the rear. Each battery has an individual cost of €1,250 and its useful life amounts to 150,000 km, that is, its durability is equivalent to that of the motorcycle itself or even longer.
