Peugeot E-Expert Hydrogen, mobility enters the Lion's realm

The new version of the Peugeot van offers clean mobility through the hydrogen fuel cell and the battery’s electricity.

In recent months we have seen many changes at Peugeot. The logo is only the most visible part, but there is much more behind this aesthetic change. This is demonstrated by the Peugeot E-Expert Hydrogen, the brand’s commercial model that launches series production of a vehicle with a hydrogen fuel cell. It has just been unveiled and is expected to be an option for professionals who want a clean vehicle, with electric traction and good range.

The arrival of this version, which complements the electric mobility offering of Peugeot within the “Extended power of choice” philosophy, adds to the range of versions: petrol, diesel, electrified and now with a fuel cell, ideal so that every user can find what they are looking for.

Fuel cell and battery combined

The Peugeot E-Expert Hydrogen has a fuel cell that generates electricity from the hydrogen stored in the tank. It also has a 10.5 kWh lithium-ion battery that can be recharged and offers an additional way of moving. Always using electricity as its energy source.

The fuel cell is located in the engine bay, and the hydrogen comes from the three hydrogen tanks located under the floor of the cargo area. They offer a capacity of 4.4 kg, and the hydrogen is stored at a pressure of 700 bar. The battery is located under the cabin seats and is charged through the power outlet at the front of the van.

The permanent magnet electric motor offers a power output of 100 kW, equivalent to 134 CV, and a maximum torque of 260 Nm. It is mounted on the front axle and is similar to the one used in the battery version of the model, so the characteristics are similar. The total range offered by this version is 400 kilometres.

Combined operation

At start-up and in low-speed driving conditions, it is the battery that provides the energy to move the van. When it runs at a certain speed, the fuel cell takes over to deliver the necessary power. When additional power is needed, such as during acceleration, both systems operate simultaneously. The battery can recover energy thanks to regenerative braking.

Load capacity

The load capacity of the hydrogen fuel cell version remains at the same level as the rest of the versions. There are two body lengths, 4.95 metres and 5.30 metres. The maximum usable volume is 6.1 cubic metres, and the cargo and cabin space is identical to the other variants.

The first units of this model will begin arriving at the end of 2021, although professionals who want one can already reserve it at the brand’s dealerships.
