Renault introduces the new Full Hybrid E-Tech 160 engine for the Captur and Symbioz
Renault introduces the Full Hybrid E-Tech 160 engine for the Captur and Symbioz, with the latter also receiving the 140 mild-hybrid engine in its range

As you know, Renault has called its hybrid engines Full Hybrid E-Tech since 2021, a technology born from the experience the brand gained in motorsport, such as Formula 1, and especially in energy recovery and regeneration. Renault has managed to sell more than 750,000 models with these powertrains, ranking as the second hybrid brand in Europe and Spain and clearly on the rise in 2025.
Renault’s hybrid technology now adds a new member called Full Hybrid E-Tech 160, aimed directly at the Captur and the Symbioz, two models that reached the market in spring 2024 and which, as we already knew from their launch, did not yet have a closed engine range. Renault has now found a solution to this, as we can see.

This new Full Hybrid E-Tech 160 engine continues to use the series-parallel architecture, with a 1,800 cc four-cylinder petrol engine that now delivers 109 CV compared with the 89 CV of the previous generation, plus a torque increase of 22 Nm to reach 172 Nm. This power increase is achieved thanks to improvements such as the new, more precise indirect injection, which not only increases performance but also reduces emissions and fuel consumption.

Alongside this combustion engine are two electric motors: a main one of 36 kW and a secondary one of 15 kW, resulting in a combined output of 160 Nm. Also forming part of the hybrid system is a battery whose capacity increases from 1.2 kWh to 1.4 kWh, improving range in fully electric mode. And let’s not forget the automatic gearbox which, although it keeps its configuration, now features a new electronic e-shifter gear lever.

With the Full-Hybrid E-Tech 160 mechanical setup, the Renault Captur now accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds, while the Renault Symbioz accelerates to 100 km/h in 9.1 seconds. In terms of consumption, both models register 4.4 l/100 km and CO2 emissions reduced to 98 g/km. That is not the only benefit: with this powertrain, the towing capacity of both models rises to 1,000 kg.

Finally, the Renault Symbioz will also see its range enhanced with the 140 CV mild-hybrid engine, consisting of a 1,300 cc four-cylinder petrol engine assisted by an alternator-starter and a 12V lithium-ion battery, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. With this engine the Symbioz registers a consumption of 5.9 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 134 g/km.
The Full-Hybrid E-Tech 160 powertrain is already available for all trims of the Renault Captur, with a starting price of €27,540, while on the Renault Symbioz it starts at €31,250 and is available for all its trims. Meanwhile, the 140 mild-hybrid engine is only available on the Symbioz in the Evolution and Techno trims, with a starting price of €28,650.
