Stelato opens reservations for the S9 estate variant in China

With the S9T, Stelato seeks to establish itself in China’s electric luxury vehicle market, after a start with the S9 electric saloon that was not entirely successful.

The car manufacturer Stelato, the result of a collaboration between Huawei and BAIC, has begun pre-sales in the Chinese market of the S9T, the estate version of the S9 luxury saloon. With this launch Stelato seeks to compete with models in the same segment, such as the NIO ET5 Touring, a segment where competition is growing ever fiercer, as is the interest of local consumers.

According to the manufacturer, the S9T is available in a purely electric version and with a range extender, with a base price starting at 328 thousand yuan. About 41,600 euros at current exchange rates.

As might be expected, the design of the S9T is similar to that of the S9, but with an extended rear section that increases cargo space to 660 litres. Its dimensions are 5,160 mm long, 2,005 mm wide and 1,492 mm high, with a wheelbase of 3,050 mm. The electric version features an NMC battery pack with a capacity of 100 kWh developed by Huawei itself, thanks to which the manufacturer promises a CLTC range of up to 801 km. The base model incorporates a single rear electric motor producing 227 kW, while the Ultra version with all-wheel drive adds a front motor to raise the combined output to 385 kW. This top-of-the-range electric version raises its price to 348 thousand yuan. About 44,200 euros at current exchange rates.

For its part, the range-extender (EREV) version of the S9T combines an electric motor with a combustion engine that acts as a generator. In purely electric mode the CLTC range of this version reaches up to 354 km, rising to as much as 1,305 km once the combustion engine comes into play. This variant is available with a choice of two battery packs, one LFP with a capacity of 37 kWh and another NMC of 53.4 kWh.

The interior of both variants is practically the same and stands out for including more than ten screens, to which must be added Huawei’s intelligent projection system 2.0. The vehicle is loaded with technology and also features Huawei’s advanced ADS 4 autonomous driving system, which uses a 192-channel LiDAR, three additional high-precision LiDARs and five 4D millimetre-wave radars.

The S9T now arrives in the Chinese market, after Stelato began selling the S9 luxury saloon in May. With just over 15 thousand S9 units sold so far, the results achieved by Stelato to date are somewhat disappointing. All the more so if we consider that the brand’s goal was to sell 120 thousand units a year. The launch of the S9T should help boost sales, and it is for this reason that the manufacturer has adjusted its selling price to improve its competitiveness in the market.
