The BMW M2 CS is testing at the Nürburgring to fine-tune its final details

BMW wants to take the M2 further and, to that end, is working on developing the CS variant, which has already been spotted testing around the Nürburgring.

Manufacturers have shown us time and again what they are capable of when it comes to building sports cars. Just when we think they have reached their limit, they surprise us with an even more radical version. This is about to happen again with the BMW M2, a car that already showed back then that it had even more potential to unlock beyond the M2 Competition, but the German brand wants to go further. A test mule of the German coupé was spotted near the Nürburgring, a clear sign that the company is developing an even more special variant.

Everything points to this camouflaged car hiding the future BMW M2 CS, a badge that had previously appeared on the M3 and M4. Thanks to it, the German sports car will reveal not only a more radical and aggressive look, but will also offer a set of performance figures that will move the M2 up a rung on the ladder.

Despite the brand’s attempts to disguise what lies beneath that test mule, we can glean several details that will be present on the production model. Starting at the front, we find a more aggressive bumper, where the front air intakes are complemented by various components designed to improve aerodynamics.

The same goal can be seen at the rear, where a more pronounced ducktail spoiler – most likely finished in carbon fibre – crowns it. As the final touch, BMW will keep the quad exhaust outlets characteristic of its most sporting models, only with a series of modifications so that the M2 CS is wrapped in a much catchier soundtrack.

Not surprisingly, the most significant change is found under the bonnet. That is where the crown jewel will be hidden: a turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine capable of producing around 450 CV. That output will be sent directly to the rear axle and can be managed through either a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Be that as it may, everything suggests that it will not be until the next Geneva Motor Show that BMW unveils the M2 CS in premiere. As with its bigger siblings, this will be a limited edition, so it is advisable to be quick if you want to get hold of one of the few units that will be built of this German sports car.
