The Brabham BT62 announces the availability of three versions, including a road-legal one

The BT62 is Brabham’s first supercar. It can be purchased in one of the three versions available and converted into the other two as required

The Brabham name is getting closer than ever to being revived in the form of a new creation, thanks to the company Brabham Automotive, founded by David Brabham, son of the engineer and Formula 1 driver and owner of the Formula 1 team Jack Brabham, which will soon hit the tarmac with its new, long-awaited and extremely limited supercar, the BT62, which we had the chance to show you some time ago.

At Brabham Automotive they are very proud of their creation, in which, using the latest automotive technology, they have managed to develop a vehicle with a pure and beastly driving experience that is nevertheless easy to understand and drive. In fact, Jason Plato, racing driver and one of the members of the British programme Fifth Gear, recently drove it and was amazed by the Brabham BT62, as his words show: “It’s driving in its purest form, which is no surprise given the family heritage behind this wonderful creation. It’s a really serious car, but also very friendly and inspires confidence. It really is epic“.

But anyone who wants to drive this supercar will need a deep pocket, and if they meet this first condition they should also hurry, because only 70 units will be built in three different variants: Ultimate Track Car, Competition Spec and Road. Bear in mind that the company will not build 70 units of each variant; the 70 will be the total across all variants, depending on how they are ordered. This makes it, without a doubt, an almost collector’s car, one that will take considerable nerve to drive without anything happening to it, especially in competition.

Brabham has just revealed what we will find in the BT62 Competition, a version that takes the Ultimate Track Car as its reference but has other elements that make it suitable for competition. To do this, the brand has stripped it of unnecessary elements, such as exterior bodywork prepared for painting and decorating according to the team’s colours and sponsors, carbon-fibre interior without the additional decorative details, and removal of the passenger seat and the initial spare parts kit (the last two can be ordered as options). It should be said that despite everything removed to make it lighter, the BT62 Competition can be converted back into the Ultimate Track Car or Road version whenever we wish.

Mechanically the specifications are exactly the same for all three versions, so under its bonnet is the naturally aspirated 5,400 cc V8, which produces a brutal 710 CV together with 667 Nm of torque, linked to a six-speed sequential transmission, plus an aerodynamic kit capable of generating 1,200 kg of downforce, carbon brakes and a traction control and ABS system prepared for competition. In addition, the Competition version adds an FIA-homologated safety roll cage.

The Brabham BT62 Competition will have a price of £750,000, which translates to around 870,000 euros, to which the corresponding taxes and fees must be added. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in early 2020.
