The Denza Z9 GT comes out of China and reaches Europe thanks to BYD

Denza, the premium sub-brand operated by BYD, is about to arrive in the European market, and it will do so with a sports saloon.

Denza is not a new brand. In fact, it has been operating in China for a little more than a decade. Initially, it was a brand created by the alliance of Mercedes and BYD, which began operating with the experience of both companies. But things did not go as expected and sales did not keep up with the venture, so Mercedes ended up leaving the company, leaving BYD on its own. Now, it has become the premium brand of the Chinese company.

One of the latest models it has launched is the Denza Z9 GT, a sports saloon that arrives in the European market this same year. To secure an interesting position in our market, the brand will combine Denza with another BYD sub-brand, Fang Cheng Bao, which will be integrated into the Denza range, starting with this model. Behind it, a van called the D9 will arrive at the end of 2025.

The Denza Z9 GT is somewhat longer than the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo, surpassing it by 200 millimetres, and its wheelbase is 225 millimetres longer, which helps provide slightly more interior space. The 952 CV of power is delivered by three electric motors, which draw energy from the 101.1 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery.

This model is also offered in a plug-in hybrid version, although for now this variant will not leave China. In this case, a 2.0-litre combustion engine is added to the three electric motors, reaching a maximum output of 858 CV. All of this makes it a rather remarkable car, capable of positioning itself against the Porsche Taycan, although its price is expected to sit well below.

In China, its price falls within a range between 45,800 and 56,800 euros at current exchange rates, while its European rivals sit between 138,000 and 200,000 euros, so the difference will also be noticeable in the European market.

BYD continues to grow in the global market, thanks to a comprehensive offering of electric and plug-in hybrid cars, which in 2024 added up to sales of 4.27 million units. Of these, 1.76 million units were battery electric vehicles, so in this respect it falls slightly behind Tesla, which sold 1.81 million units in the same period. Nevertheless, the Chinese brand hopes to overtake its American rival over the course of this year.

Although Denza’s arrival is imminent, the prices of the models that will inaugurate the brand’s presence in the European market are not yet known.
