The Dongfeng Rich 6 is coming to Europe: a Chinese pick-up for hard work

This model has arrived in Europe, although for the time being it is only being sold in Slovakia, though it is expected to reach other European countries within a while.

Chinese brands are setting their own pace in Europe. They are not going to dethrone the continent’s best-known manufacturers right away, but they are positioning themselves to offer attractive models across several segments. Pick-ups are not a very popular type of vehicle in our market, but their presence is growing. Not to the extent seen in the United States, but it is a very capable truck for the toughest work in the countryside.

Dongfeng is launching an offensive in the European market with several models, among them the Dongfeng Rich 6, a pick-up that will be available with four versions, all of them ready to face demanding working days in the countryside. This vehicle shares many components with the Nissan Navara, as it stems from a collaboration between both brands.

This model offers a length of 5.31 metres, with a wheelbase of 3.15 metres. This allows for a double cab with seating for five people. This will be the version arriving in Europe, although if it achieves the success expected, single-cab versions with four seats may follow, with the two rear seats as an optional extra.

Depending on the version chosen, buyers will have a good range of ADAS systems. Other options are also offered, such as the type of upholstery and other elements that improve the comfort of the cabin occupants. Just because it is designed for work does not mean comfort has to be sacrificed.

Under the bonnet of all four versions is the same engine. This diesel unit is of Renault-Nissan origin, displaces 2.3 litres, meets the Euro6d standard and delivers 163 CV. It is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic.

The entry-level version will have rear-wheel drive, while the rest of the versions will feature all-wheel drive. The former will return a consumption of 7.2 litres per 100 kilometres, while the all-wheel-drive versions will record 7.7 litres per 100 kilometres.

All four versions offer a maximum torque of 380 Nm, making it well suited to any job, however demanding. The model’s top speed is put at 170 km/h. As for pricing, the entry-level version starts at 30,990 euros, and the top-of-the-range all-wheel-drive version starts at 34,990 euros. For now, it will be available in Slovakia, although it will gradually be introduced into other European markets.
