The Ford C-MAX and Grand C-MAX with the 1-litre Ecoboost engine are starting to be produced in Almussafes

The Ford plant in Almusaffes announces that it has begun manufacturing the Grand C-Max and C-Max with 1-litre displacement engines, the three-cylinder Ecoboost.

With the start of sales of the Ford C-Max and Grand C-Max variants with the new 1-litre Ecoboost engines scheduled for autumn, the Valencian plant at Almussafes has got into gear and started building the units destined for sale of both models.

The small three-cylinder engine is already under the bonnet of six models from the brand; counting these two new models, it will also be shared by the Ford B-MAX and Fiesta, along with the Mondeo and the EcoSport. But will the 1-litre Ecoboost be sufficient for vehicles of respectable size, at least like the Grand C-Max?

Those who want this type of engine will have to choose between the 100 CV and the 125 CV versions for both models. How far the lower-powered unit may penalise the performance of both vehicles due to weight we do not know, but at least in the Focus the more powerful engine was enough to get out of slow bends or up slopes. Of course, you will have to make use of the gearbox and drop gears to gain revs, something the Ecoboost readily accepts thanks to the turbo, reaching its 6,500 RPM redline.

Ford executives have announced that there is nothing to fear regarding the capabilities of the three-cylinder. The Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Services at Ford has announced that “it is Ford’s exclusive feature to propel a seven-seater with such a small engine, and we believe it will be a revelation among those who want fuel economy without sacrificing driving fun.”
