The Honda Civic Type R Pickup is set to break all the rules, but in the form of a concept car
Honda wanted to give its Civic Type R a completely different image, which has led to the creation of a concept car in the form of a pickup.

The Honda Civic Type R is one of the most effective sports compacts in the world, something it achieves thanks to its tuning and its surprising aerodynamics. However, Honda engineers from the United Kingdom have decided to create a very special and unique variant of the Type R. From this idea was born the Civic Type R Pickup, a concept car that takes the Japanese sports car as its base and gives it a completely new and unusual design.
To do this, a pre-production Civic Type R was chosen, to which the relevant modifications were applied to create one of the most exclusive and unique vehicles in the world. The Japanese pickup features a series of structural changes that make it very different from a conventional Civic but, at the same time, Honda has kept many elements intact.
The first thing that catches the eye is the styling, since, on the one hand, we still have the aggressive front end that a Civic Type R offers, but we will quickly notice that the rear doors have been sacrificed to make way for the new cargo bed. The changes have been implemented from the B-pillar onwards, where the Honda engineers have cut away everywhere with the aim of shaping the new pickup concept but, surprisingly, have managed to keep the Type R’s aerodynamics intact.

The gigantic rear spoiler of the Honda sports compact has been respected throughout, since, at the same time, the mechanics remain the same. In this way, the Japanese company has made sure to maintain the sporting spirit that emanates from the Civic Type R and, although its configuration has changed radically, the compact is still capable of offering performance befitting a vehicle of its category.
If we dare to lift the hood of the Japanese pickup, we will find the charismatic supercharged 2.0-litre engine capable of producing 320 CV of power and 400 Nm of torque. These figures allow the compact to catapult to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds, a time that is still respected in this crazy concept car. At the same time, the top speed is 265 km/h, 5 km/h less than the standard variant is capable of reaching.

Honda has shown us that versatility and sportiness are not two incompatible concepts and, although sporty pickups from America already exist, the Japanese company has wanted to treat us to its own version of that concept. As we have mentioned, it is a prototype, but who knows if in the not-too-distant future we will see how Honda applies what it has learned with this Civic Type R in a production variant.
