The ORA 5 is the brand's new car and could arrive in Europe soon

The GWM ORA 5 has already started its commercial life in China and is expected to reach Europe within a few months to strengthen the brand’s lineup.

The Chinese company Great Wall Motor has started selling two of its brands in Europe. So far, since 2022, these have been the brand Wey, specialised in premium SUV models, and the brand ORA, which is aimed at more affordable electric cars. For now, its range is limited to four models: the GWM Ora 03 and GWM Ora 07, both electric, and the plug-in hybrids GWM Wey 03 and GWM Wey 05.

In principle, it has only been present in the United Kingdom and Germany, although in 2026 it will reach the Italian and Spanish markets. Its plans involve launching seven models, both new ones and derivatives of those already on sale. They will offer electric, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and ICE-powered models, so they will cover the entire range of available powertrains.

One of those new models arriving shortly is the GWM ORA 5, an SUV measuring 4.47 metres long, with a width of 1.83 metres and a height of 1.64 metres. The wheelbase of this model is 2.72 metres, so it offers enough interior space to travel comfortably.

A recognisable and attractive design for European buyers

Although it aims to be a car that European buyers can enjoy, it also has a design language typical of a Chinese vehicle, with design details reminiscent of the ORA 3. The rear lights set into the lower part of the rear window help create a fairly attractive look at the rear.

It will come as standard with a 1.65 square metre sunroof and, to improve safety at the wheel, a LiDAR radar has been fitted above the front windscreen to provide advanced driver-assistance functions.

An interior in line with the ORA models

In the cabin we find a instrument display measuring 10.25 inches. The touchscreen is 15.6 inches in high definition. It runs the third-generation Coffee OS operating system. It also has a wireless charger for smartphones and offers occupants three different colour options: white, grey and brown.

As for the engine, it delivers 204 CV and will be powered by a 45.3 kWh battery or a 58.3 kWh one. With these batteries it will achieve a range of 480 or 580 kilometres, although these figures are measured under the CLTC cycle, which is less demanding than the European WLTP standard.

Sales have already started in China, although we will have to wait until well into this year to learn the details of its launch in Europe, as well as its final price and equipment.
