The Suzuki S-Cross debuts an MHEV version with ECO label

The Suzuki S-Cross debuts a new engine with mild hybridisation, or MHEV, to achieve the benefits of the ECO label

Suzuki continues its firm commitment to electrification, and in recent months they have presented the Suzuki Swift SHVS and Suzuki Ignis SHVS – the cheapest 4x4s on the market and the Suzuki Vitara MHEV that we were able to test.

There was still one model left to receive the Mild Hybrid technology with which the Japanese are achieving the benefits of the DGT ECO label: the Suzuki S-Cross. To do so, it will fit the same mechanical layout as the Suzuki Vitara.

However, in its SUV siblings this engine’s output is reduced to 129 CV so that the 11 CV lost along the way are supplied by the small 10 kW electric motor operating at 48V. In this way, it matches the output to reach 140 CV.

The Japanese brand has stated that the benefits of adding this electric component are numerous, and thanks to this consumption can be reduced by between 10% and 15%. Not only this, but the torque rises from the 220 Nm this powerplant previously produced to 235 Nm.

The incorporation of this mild hybrid mechanism into the Suzuki S–Cross range has brought some changes. Among them, the option of a automatic gearbox disappears, since the brand’s compact SUV will now only be available with a six-speed manual gearbox. However, it will still feature one of the characteristics that sets it apart from its competitors: the AllGrip 4WD all-wheel-drive system.Suzuki S Cross Mhev (1)

In addition to the ECO label, the Suzuki S-Cross will have comprehensive equipment

The equipment levels available on the Suzuki S-Cross will remain two: GLE and GLX. However, the standard equipment is updated, so it is now more complete:

The entry-level trim of the range –GLE– will debut two novelties that were not previously available. The first is the RBS predictive braking control, which allows the Suzuki S-Cross to brake fully if it detects a risk of collision. The second novelty is adaptive cruise control which, together with features such as light and rain sensors, rear camera, dual-zone climate control or heated seats, make for a very complete standard specification.

If that is not enough, we can opt for the GLX equipment level. With this, we will add front and rear parking sensors, a navigation system, leather upholstery or a panoramic sunroof.
